Yamaha RX530 Receiver Display lamp

I have had my receiver forever and suddenly last year the display went dark. I had it repaired and 3 months later it went out again. I had it repaired again and about 5 months later it went out again. I took it apart myself and removed the lamp. I noticed the wires looked like the coating had melted through to the wires. I am not sure why or what to do to prevent this from happening again. I found the replacement lamps on TigerDirect.com and they have 2 part numbers. I am not sure if it matters which one you use but one is $2.95 and the other is $3.95. I haven't ordered yet as I am not sure which one to get and if I need to do something else to prevent this from happening again. I found the service manual for sale on www.servicemanuals.net but hoped I wouldn't have to pay the money for it to figure this problem out.

Try finding out the nominal voltage for the original lamps (or the replacement you want to use) and then measure the voltage on your unit's display lamp socket (or wires).
Seems like the lamp supply voltage is slightly higher than normal and with each power on/off it will spike a little, eventually burning out the lamp in time.

You can try to connect a resistor in series with the lamp. Measure the lamp's resistance - if you add a resistor of the same value, the lamp will then have only about one half of the voltage across it. You can then decrease the value of the resistor until the voltage across the lamp is about the nominal lamp voltage, maybe a tiny bit lower, the rest of it will drop across the resistor. You may have to experiment a bit to find out the correct resistor value.
Be sure to use a resistor that has at least the same power rating (wattage) as the lamp, or it may heat up or burn out.

Hope you can make it shine again...

Regards

Yamaha rxv475 receiver, strange sign, like a S, crossing display. Any suggestion?

If you are seeing a strange sign, like a S, crossing the display on your Yamaha RXV475 receiver, it is likely that there is a problem with the receiver or one of its components. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the connections: Make sure all of the cables and connections to and from the receiver are secure and not damaged.
  2. Check the power supply: Make sure the power supply to the receiver is functioning properly. If the receiver is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, try plugging it directly into the wall outlet to see if that fixes the problem.
  3. Reset the receiver: Try resetting the receiver by unplugging it from the power outlet, waiting a few minutes, and then plugging it back in.
  4. Check for a firmware update: There may be a firmware update available for the receiver that could fix the issue. Check the Yamaha website or contact their customer support for more information.
  5. Check for other issues: There could be other issues with the receiver, such as a malfunctioning display or a problem with the internal components. In this case, it is best to seek the help of a qualified audio technician who can diagnose and fix the problem.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, don't hesitate to ask.

When I turn the receiver on, it suddenly turns off after only 4-seconds. Advice?

sounds like there is a problem in the amp. If you hold the "STRAIGHT" and "AUDIO SELECT" buttons and then press power, what does it say on the display? This will help narrow down where your problem may be.

Dark display on Sony STR-DE597 receiver

Check for bad solder connections on the display itself. If none use a voltmeter and check dc voltage on the first and last pins of the display. should be about 20v dc. If you don't have the dc voltage check for a bad transistor or resistor in the power supply. It could also be other thing but this is where you should start.

RX-V1500- front panel lights not working

The display on an amp has two components.
A small Lamp (light bulb)
A LCD display with a color filter.
Normally when the display goes out the problem is with the lamp
The lamp on my RXV 870 died after about 9 years of use.
I called Yamaha and was able to by a replacement.
The lamp is an odd voltage 14.5 if I recall.

Looking at the receipt i should have bought 3 for the cost of shipping. It cost about 10.00 cnd,
