Manually tuning the reciever

I have a Sony STR-DE985 reciever. I live in a remote area where the signals are weak so the unit want to seek a strong frequency rather than the one I tune to. is there a way of disabling this feature or does the thing go to the shooting range?? : )

You should be able to tune in manually.
press tune
press fm or am
press d. tuning
enter the frequency of the station 4 or 5 digits ie 9370 or 10450

another thing to look into would be getting a yagi fm antenna, they are directional and although you may have to rotate it for best results, they work great.

I HAVE A SONY RECIEVER STR-DH700, I get no sound

make sure the FM antenna is connected and in a good place then check to see if the A-B speaker selector is selected properly.check to see that the sound field is set properly, My 800 allows for several different options and if your speaker wires are reversed or not in the correct position front left at front left etc it will not send the signal to those speakers. try using the TEST TONE feature if you have one it will send a signal to each speaker in sequence (LF< C< RF<in order) it will go all the way around to see if they are connected properly, that way you can tell if they are connected at all or in the wrong spot on the back interface. I dont know if that is what you meant by AUTO CAL, but that is a seperate feature when you use the connected mic to determine range, height and distance to the position in the room you are most likely to be seated for optimal sound.

Sony STR-VX550 does not obey remote commands from "optional" Sony RM-S750 remote commander. RM-S750 is working properly and communicates all commands to my other STR-VX550. Receiver appears to be...

You appear to have reprogrammed your remote. Remotes can work with other units made by the same company. But the keys will pass out different signals to each unit. You need to find the correct code for your unit.
This could involve selecting a combination of keys on the remote and possibly some controls on the unit. Then entering a numbers on the remote.
It could be that the unit has the option of selecting a remote mode 2 also. So you will need to select it back to one or whatever it is supposed to be.
