There are three lengths of action (not including the Model Seven's lightweight action, which is even shorter than the 'standard' short action). There is the short action for cartridges up to 2.800 in (71.12 mm) in overall length like the .308 Winchester cartridge family, the standard action for cartridges up to 3.340 in (84.84 mm) in overall length like the .30-06 Springfield and .300 Winchester Magnum cartridge families and the long action for magnum calibers exceeding 3.340 in (84.84 mm) in overall length like the .300 Remington Ultra Magnum and .375 Holland & Holland cartridge families.

Take the hand-guards off and the date of manufacture will be on the barrel.
This is actually the barrel manufacture, but at Colt this is usually within a very short period of time. The date is offered as month and year.

If you have the original box and wrapper, look on the cellophane wrapper - the manufacture date is usually stamped on it

Or call Colt and ask them. With serial number they will give you month/year

Your best bet is to contact Rock Island Auctions to determine the age and model of this firearm. Another source of information is the Blue Book Of Firearms Values by F.P. Vjestad, which is updated annually.

Date of manufacture Remington model 721 62054 30 06. This gun was purchased in Montana by my father before the Korean War. What year was it made?

The Model 721 and Model 722 along with the later Model 725 variant are bolt-action sporting rifles manufactured by Remington Arms from 1948 until 1961. The 721/722 replaced the short lived Model 720.

L C Smith dbl SXS 16 field grade shot gun. Left barrel says Hunter Arms Co. Inc. Mfrs Fulton NY USA. Back of barrels and on action are #'s FW 101398. Trying to determine age and value?

Hello, John -

If you have not yet discovered the L. C. Smith Collectors Association web site, then this is the link to the association home page:
http://www.lcsmith.org/index.html

Reading the association's article here may prove instructive about your shotgun:
http://www.lcsmith.org/shotguns/1913grades.html

On the association home page, in the left side bar, scroll down to the link for Shotguns. Through that link you will find a link for Year of Manufacture. Click or tap on that link.

On the web page for Year of Manufacture, near the bottom, you will find this sentence:
(Quote)
To obtain all of the existing information about your shotgun, the Research Division of the L.C. Smith Collectors Association can search the factory production records and can provide this information in a letter.
(End quote)
http://www.lcsca.clubexpress.com/
There is a charge for such research, however.

Best wishes.

I have a Mossberg 930 and my issue is that sometimes I fired it, the bolt goes back to reload automatically ,comes back foward ready to fired up again and click, no shell in the chamber. This does happen...

Strip it and clean the slots the two stops ride in. If that doesn't fix it, replace the stops. Mossberg will replace them free of charge. If you're a Handy Andy, once you get the new stops from Mossberg, examine the old ones and file and stone them so they match the new, working ones. You'll see what was wrong.
