I just got a revolver smith and wesson barrel says 38 s&w special cartridge. Inside frame with cylinder open is stamped 4379 and sn on bottom of frame is 279032 Thanks

There were several variants in terms of available barrel length (4", 5 1/2", and 7"), target grips, and frame colors (gray or black). The stainless steel version (as opposed to the blued steel) was called the 22S.

Can't tell the model without looking at it. Condition is everything in older guns.
.38 S&W Ctg. is a DIFFERENT caliber than .38 Special.
