How do I put my dometic fridge in gas mode? We are fairly new at this, and yes we have read the owners manual, but yesterday we put it in gas mode to see, and it didn't work. Is there a trick to get it into gas mode? I am assuming so. The trailer is only a year old, and needless to say we have never had to camp without electricity, but this weekend will be our first! :) Thanks, the kids will appreciate their ice cream not melting ;)

Yes it can be repaired. A refrigeration engineer will find the leak, repair it and re-gas. If it is very old, you might like to consider a new one, because they are more efficient.
That fridge has 2 elements. A 12v and mains 240v/120v. Sounds like the mains element or the fuse has blown. The fuse box is in behind the fridge at the bottom. Follow the power cord to the box. There should be 3 fuses. Check them all. Using a multimeter, check the readings of both elements. Google " Dometic Service manual DM2652 pdf" and page 11 should help you.
google search shows that it is a 3 way fridge --12v/ mains /gas
it will operate off the battery, mains plug in ,or from a gas bottle
so --yes it will operate without a gas connection
it is not suitable for a built in application but is stand alone unit

If you look at the last page of the parts list (page 10) it is showing a thermostat across the Black and white wires.
There is not a fuse that I can see. The fuse has to be external to the unit. You should be able to read continuity (resistance) of the AC heating element at the power cord with the AC switch ON. AC Power source must be removed to perform resistance checks.
No continuity there are 2 possibile failures (Other than wiring)
1. AC heating element
2. Thermostat.
The old converter may have blown out the control board for your 'fridge. This is quite common if the voltage exceeds 15.5 volts, and when there is a ripple voltage (AC voltage component) riding on top of the DC voltage.
Gas / LP mode is the default for this fridge, a fail safe mode.
You can find the service manual for your fridge here.
You need to make sure that you follow the manufacturer's recommendations for using the unit with each specific power source. It's important that you have the all switches in the proper position, based on what power source you're using.
Here's the manual for your model, save a copy and print it out and take some time to review the section #3 Operating Instructions on page 6.
The part you are looking for is the thermo couple. It senses the heat from the flame and holds the gas valve open. The clicking will try three times and then go into lock out. You then will need to reset on the front of the fridge. When installing the thermo couple do not over tighten.
