You have to keep that zone clear of all items being stored by at least 2 inches. That is a drain for water in a liquid state after a defrost cycle. Without some air circulation the temp is low enough to turn some of it solid before it can escape...then it snow balls and like snow flakes just gets bigger til it plugs. It's a design flaw and there's more bad news. The pipes inside that carry the coolant are so thin just moving the unit can cause a break and that is when you have to buy a new one.

Hello, our LG GR-389STQ fridge is 16 years old. It has worked well all along. Now a sheet of ice regularly forms at the bottom of the freezer. I have seen videos explaining that it is likely a clogged...

Only frost free models have a drain and that is recognisable by a funnel shaped moulding in the plastic of the cabinet liner terminating in a hole.

Frost free models have a heating element that is switched on briefly after each cooling cycle, melting any ice that has formed over the evaporator. The resulting water droplets are channeled into the drain by the funnel-shaped moulding. The drain leads to a tray fixed to the compressor and the heat from the compressor causes the water to evaporate.

The best thing to check if the drain is clear is a flexible curtain wire and for a good clean a variety of suitably sized brushes are available.
Sometimes the insulation of a fridge or freezer becomes sodden with water and ice tends to build over that area. Where the drain runs through an area of sodden insulation where ice is forming it can be impossible to clear the drain.

Check the outside of the cabinet for cold spots. The presence of a cold spot indicates the insulation is failing and it is time to replace...

We have four Scotsman Ice Makers. The curtains are beginning to turn a little green. What is the approximate cost of replacing these curtains. How much per curtain?

Unless they are terrible you can clean the curtains. What you do is put icemaker cleaner in the icemaker and run it through a cycle. I don't know how much the curtains cost.

Have whirpool gold with clogged freezer drain plug to drip pan

Hello, You will be unable to remove the drip pan since it is built in, use a curtain wire, push it down the hole..theres not alot of space but can be done until you feel the clog clear...if it's still iced up use some hot water to defrost the ice before you get to the clog..once you think you got it pour some water down the drain to test it's clear. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!!

Water leaking to bottom of freezer

ok you have a blocked freezer drain. The best thing to use to clear this is 'curtain wire (the plastic coated wire you use to hold up net curtains). Ok you need to find the drain hole in the "small tray on the back wall inside that fills and freezes and then the water is overflowing at this point to the bottom of freezer" you want to gentley feed the curtain wire down the hole untill the water drains down there. If you can't get the wire down you may need to turn the unit off to defrost as it could be frozen solid with ice. cheers

Ok you need to defrost this unit eg unplug and leave all doors open for 48 hours then get some "flexy curtain wire (white plastic coated, used for hanging net curtains) this wire is perfect for getting up or down the fridge drain.

Scotsman dc33pa ice maker

Make sure the curtain is not torn and there are no leaks from the resivoir. If ok check to make sure you have enough water pressure to the machine. Make sure you have enough water passing through the valve during harvest cycle. To check... turn the timer cam to harvest cycle. Water should come in quickly behind the curtain on the right side and the timer should advance three minutes to freeze portion of cycle and stop running. Water should spray and form ice for approximately 25min. Then the timer advances for 5 minutes into harvest cycle and it refills with water again.

Ice in Refrigerator Section

there are 2 possibilities. first the drain is blocked causing water to overflow from the defrost water gulley at the bottom rear of the inside of the fridge. this can form ice as it is close to the division between fridge and freezer. second, the .fault of ice growth can be caused by breakdown of the cabinet insulation. of the two, the first is the moree likely. to test drain is cloear, pour a little water down the drain. if it does'nt flow freely, push something flexible down the drain hole till blockage is clear

Ice forming on bottom of freezer section

The freezer should have a drain hole for the defrost water to flow through. This will drain into a pan outside of the freezer cabinet. If this drain tube becomes blocked it will not allow the water to drain out and it will accumulate in the bottom of the freezer section. You will have to verify that the drain is clear through to the drain pan. this can be done carefully with a piece of stiff wire. There should also be some sort of a water trap on the drain tube to prevent air from entering the freezer compartment through the drain tube.

Ice forming in bottom of freezer

Rita, your drain hole is frozen over and when your refer goes into defrost the water is running out into the cabinet instead of down the drain hole. Remove the evaporator cover and poor some boiling water in the evaporator drip pan. This should melt the ice and clear the drain hole....Catriver...post back.
