Brand-new Epson WF 3640, need to print copy of a document that I have put on the glass screen. I'm not using the auto feeder right now. I've hit 'START' for B&W copy and it says operation is invalid.

WOT DOES ADF MEAN ON MY EPSON WF-2630

ADF is an outomatic document feeder on top of the printer. That's where you put paper that you want copies or scans of. See video below.

Why does adf cause line in center of printed documents?

Usually needs a cleaning of glass. See video tutorial. It's on a different printer, but same concept:

When I try to make copies using the ADF the screen tells me to remove documents and place on glass. Can you explain why. I have sveral pages

Automatic document feeder requires you to insert files into holder and let the machine scan through the pile providing you have not over ridden settings to manual.it sounds as if you have switched off adf to manual which would require you to place each document onto glass one at a time.see if you can switch it back to auto in the screen menu.

I have a Epson cx11 and get a black vertical line down the middle of scans and copies

Check your flat bed and Document feeder scanning glass need to be clean, if any dot or dust in scanning glass of document feeder it will appear a line, check this points first
1- Check printouts from computer or FAX if it is clean problem in scanning section
2- Check using Copying a blank paper using only Flatbed if it prints without any line its problem from document feeder Scanning glass
So solution is clean the Document feeder scanning glass using wet cloth, note careful about wet cloth switch off the machine and clean it

Lines on copy's when using auto document feeder on epson artisan 800

You don't say exactly, but I'm guessing that scanning when laying the document flat on the glass (ie, not using the document feeder) you get a printout that is fine. It's only when you use the document feeder that you get the vertical lines on the printout?
Epson repair tech in my area says this is a common problem. It is due to the aging of the calibration strip (the white strip at the underside of the flat bed glass near the "home" position). It shrinks after years and can't provide correct calibration.
This is a problem only with the pages fed through the document scanner. It sounded weird to me, but the tech said he stocks lots of replacement glass and does lots of these repairs to Epson scanners.
It might be cheaper to buy a new scanner rather than get yours fixed. He said it's pretty inexpensive to do this repair, but scanners are also pretty cheap.
Good luck.

The scanning glass probably needs cleaning.
