Tweek and peek is minamal on that radio, Finals can not be adjusted but can be replaced with larger ones and the swing limiter needs to be either rebiosed or clipped. Do not try to do this yourself with out the right equipment you will just make it a noisy mess.

Cobra 19 DX IV, I bought this unit in america, but i live in the U.K. and can't pick up any channels, does this unit Only work in america, can i get somthing for it to work in england??? Thanks...

  • The UK uses more FM frequencies than AM frequencies. So the CB will work over there just fine but you will need to find someone who uses them frequencies as well or it may no be much fun. Here is a frequency chart for what we in America call import radios shipped from over there. http://macuk.org.uk/cbchart.htm 27.555 FM is the main frequency used in the UK but the Cobra 19 is a strictly AM CB. Also on the link on the far right are the standard 40 channel frequencies from the UK version of CB's and not one is the same as the Cobra 19 as the UK uses FM for their 40 channel CB radios.
  • Here is the 40 channel CB frequency chart utilized in America http://www.csgnetwork.com/cbradiofreq.html
  • Hope this clarifies things for you.

I have a Galaxy DX 33 HP CB radio, but i have been told this is a HAM radio, I had bought 3 on a sale from e-bay as new out of box units, I had my friend hook it up , and he says it will neither send...

Google search suggests it's a 10m HAM radio.  CB radio is on a different frequency (around 11m)

You might take a look at this page which looks like it is talking about how to convert this radio to CB.

http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/galaxy/dx33hml/dx33hml_freq_conv.htm

(Disclaimer: note that it's illegal to run more than 4W on CB channels in the US)

Hope this helps

White noise on the receive any help would be appreciated . dx-2517 base

sounds like your receive is off frequency. Try tuning it in with the clarifier. If you can tune it in better then you need to align the receive.

How to tune a galaxy 55v mobile to receive better

really the only thing you can do to the radio is make sure it is aligned, and that it is receiving on frequency. Although this unit has a frequency counter that will tell you where it's receiving, you cannot successfully put the radio on frequency unless you fully align the radio. In order to align a radio you need a volt meter, watt meter that reads avg watts, and an oscilloscope.

A volt meter and watt meter is easy to come by, however the oscilloscope is an expensive piece of equipment to attain.

You can just as easily tune your clarifier to the correct receiving frequency on the counter.

An easier way to improve your receive on any radio is to make sure the antenna is tuned for best SWR. When an antenna is tuned to the proper length for the best SWR your receive will get better because your antenna will be on Que.

There is also a Schottky diode upgrade that can be done. This consists of changing the detector diodes in the radio to schottky diodes as well as changing a transistor. This mod improves receive in most galaxy radio a great deal.

You can get these as a kit with full instructions on ebay fairly cheap.

You need to replace diodes D1, D2, D23, D24 with the schottky diodes in the kit, then replace TR-17, with the transistor that comes in the kit. Then remove TR-14. and them remove TR-19, and put the transistor from TR-14 in the TR-19 spot.

The Transitor that goes into TR-17 is a 2sc2999. I can't remeber what the Schottky part number is. But like I said, they sell the kits with complete instructions on ebay.

Here you will find all the technical information about your radio, as well as alignment guides.

Here is a link to ebay with an upgrade kit and instructions on ebay.

Cobra 19 DX IV out of frequency

I would definitely take it back for a re check. If the radio took a good bump perhaps it can cause it to drift off frequency. Turning the channel while holding his mic keyed does nothing but just throws a dead carrier. No value what soever. RF Gain is just to improve his reception by either lowering or raising the sensitivity of the receiver of the radio. Squelch is to silence the hissing sound you hear when no one is talking. Care must be taken to not to adjust too much or you wont hear anybody. It wont help his transmit audio at all. Recommend you get another Radio Check from someone else. He could be pulling your leg saying you don't sound good. Best regards and hope this helps some......................John.

Cobra 19 DX IV CB Radio Gets no signal at all

my only idea is the frequency that Canadians transmit/recieve on is different than us down south (in the USA). I know Europe and the UK use a different frequency range so my guess is that Canada uses a different radio frequency range than the U.S. making you unable to communicate with fellow radio users. You may be able to search the frequency range for Canada vs. the U.S. and see if there's a difference. Hope this helps...and again, it's just a thought.
