Probable Cause
Error would occur if the incline is unable to move or if the incline position potentiometer is not functioning. When this error occurs, all lift motor and drive motor motion is ceased and the display will go blank except for the error displayed.

This sounds as though the motor is bad, they cost around $130.00, ther is a n electronic controller that controls it, but as it is trying to raise I would think that the switch and controller are functioning. Best of luck and please post back f this helps.

wait a minute and place it back in the console to resolve issues with

First I was unable to identiy your model. Star Trac makes 'S Series' treadmills and Pro Tread DC (5500 Pro S model) treadmills. Can you be more specific on your model?
Second. I have used Star Trac customer service in the past and they are the best. They are responsive, and knowledgeable, and will provide troubleshooting flowcharts to help you solve your problem. I highly recommend giving them a call.
ProForm Treadmills have a reset procedure for the incline function. With the key inserted in the console, activate the incline; while the incline is changing, remove the key. Wait 30 seconds, then replace the key. The incline should to maximum, then to minimum, resetting its limits. It worked for mine just 10 minutes ago; the procedure is in the manual if you have it.
