SOURCE: 120v hot tub wiring diagram

I would expect your tub is either 110 or 220. Currently you are set up for 110. Based on that ... you disregard the red wire.

If your tub can run on 220, you should run it on 220 as this is more economical.

You should probably have an electrician check this out and make any changes to assure proper and SAFE operation of your tub. You are using a GFI, correct?

Wiring a Pump for 220

Should only be two wires out of the pump. Three if you count ground. If you have two blacks and a white, Hot and Hot go to the black, Ground or Neutral goes to the white. If more wires, please respond.

How towire a 220/110 7 wire single phase motor to 2 wire plus ground switch

This is very simple, but you need to make sure you have the correct wires in hand. If you are wiring a 220/110 motor, and you are wiring it for 110 use, you will only be using 3 wires. If this motor has 7 wires, most you will need to cap off.All you need to use are P-1/Line 1 is your 110 hot. Cap off T-4, 2, and 5, Line 2. That would be used for 220 volts. P- 1 will go to your hot wire on press. On the new motor, T-8, P-2, and t-3 you say are insulated? You will need a Neutral wire to tie to the other line wire coming from the press. And the 3rd wire will be your ground. So, P-1 is hot to your press wiring, t-4,2, and 5 capped off. T-8, P-2, and T-3 has to be a Neutral wire, I would think that if T-4,2,and 5 are line -2, this would be for 220 volts. You are being confused by so many wires. You will only need to use P-1 power for 110 to press power wire, find which wires are Neutral and a ground that will go to your press wiring.P-1 will go to Red if this is hot to the press, Black to Neutral, and on the new motor you will see what color is ground, normally green or bare copper. 3 wires only. You will only need the p-1 hot, a neutral, normally white but may be black on the new motor, and a ground. Look at the Diagram on the new motor, and it will tell you the combination. P-1, Neutral, ground, and cap off the other 4 wires. I hope I havent confused you more, it is very simple, its just the colors of the wires the are confusing you and the amount. Just remember, you only need to use 3 of the, P-1, Neutral, and a ground.

I had a hayward 1 hp super pump which began having problems. Purchased a century centurion a. o. smith 1 hp pump Question 1 How do I know for certain that dark grey wire running from my electric is to...

If this is a new motor you purchased, it should indicate whether it's 110v, or 220v. Also the sticker on the motor should show wiring for 110, and/or 220v. when you remove the cap on the back of the motor it will usually have a little plug, or switch that allows you to change from 110 to 220. Older motors you had remove wire nuts and swap wires. L1 vs L2 don't really matter as long as your voltage is correct if it's 110, then you got 1 hot and 1 neutral. Neutral should be white, and Hot should be black, Red, or possible blue or purple. If you got 220V then you have 2 hot wires and no neutral. If you can't tell the current voltage by looking at the sticker and the wires in the back of the motor, and the documentation that came with it, then you should go back to where you got it and make sure. A local motor shop will also probably check it and tell you for free. Now you mentioned grey and pink wires. If your referring to the wires coming from your supply and not the old motor, then I assume they are white and black (or maybe blue or purple) and are discolored from age and heat. the colors of the wires inside the motor can vary from motor to motor, so you need to follow the sticker on the side.

I have a new A O Smith B861 motor I want to

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

I am not sure what you mean by "center wire". For 230V single phase you should have 2 hot line leads (115V each) and a ground wire. Set the motor leads as the nameplate shows for the high voltage connection and attach your line leads where the two lines are indicated. If you have a 3+Grd wire drop DO NOT connect the neutral, insulate it and leave it unconnected. It will not matter which line lead connects to which motor line wire as far as rotation direction. To change rotation, if the motor allows it, you reverse the start winding leads as directed on your nameplate.

Breaker keeps tripping when turning on pump.

The red and black wires if ran correctly are the load lines(power). The white is neutral or ground. If its a 1/2 to1-1/2 hp motor connect the red and black wires to terminals #1 and #4. If its 2 hp use #1 and #4. If its 3 hp use #2 and #4. Connect the white wire to the green colored screw. A grounding conductor should always be connected under the green grounding screw, which is located within the terminal compartment of the motor. You can check the breaker for the wire colors, one should be black and the other red. The white wire should be terminated to the neutral/ground bar in the can.
