You would need to adjust the tension screw so the tension is looser than usual. However, remember to mark the setting BEFORE making any adjustments so you will know where to return the original setting.

SOURCE: Using Pfaff 130 to sew leather, needle won't pick

This machine really isnt quite designed for leather. What has happened is your hook to needle timing is out.

When you sew through thick materials, a lot of machines have issues where the needle sticks in the fabric but all the internal parts shift and this causes the hook to needle timing to go out. The begging signs of this is skipping stitches. You will have to have you local independent sewing store do this adjustment for you

Hope that helps,
Chris

I have a Singer sewing machine#7258 what setting and needle and thread do I use to sew leather

Hope it is light weight leather. It should not be used on heavy leather.

Use a brand new heavy needle (leather). Avoid using upholstery or thicker thread as that sometimes does not feed well through the needle eye. Set it for a longer stitch. And you might want to adjust the presser foot pressure to accommodate the thicker fabric under the presser foot. Also, a leather foot, roller foot, or walking foot may be helpful--if if not available, try using parchment paper (or something similar) on the surface of the leather to help it slide under the presser foot..

I am having trouble getting upholstery thread to stitch properly. I have the fabric set on leather/vinyl and am using a leather needle. Any suggestions?

Domestic machines are not set up to handle upholstery thread. For one thing, upholstery thread is much thicker than regular sewing thread, so the tensions will need to be adjusted (if possible). It is also very difficult to use heavy thread in the bobbin. Depending on the weight of the fabric you are sewing, you may be able to use a good quality polyester thread that is strong but not as thick as upholstery thread. You may also need to use a different presser foot and pressure adjustment for your project.

Do the omega 420 handle upholstry thread

Most domestic machines would have difficulty using upholstery thread. Upholstery thread is generally very heavy so the tension settings would need to be adjusted on the machines. Evenso, the tension mechanisms adjustments still may not be enough to accommodate heavy upholstery thread.

Even if your machine can accommodate the thread, your machine's motor could be compromised trying to sew upholstery fabric.

Im having trouble with the needlr threaf locking to the bobbin thread. just have 2 long threads after srwing. im sewing upholstrry lrather up to 4mm thick

Check whether it occurs only when sewing thick upholstery fabric or on any fabric. If it is only on the upholstery, then the fabric is most likely causing the needle to deflect so it is not intercepting the bobbin thread. Make sure to use a brand new sharp needle and one that is heavy enough to penetrate the fabric without bending. If it occurs on any fabric, then the machine is most likely out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

Correct bobbin size for a Necchi Omega 6030

You can use either 16 or 16J. If your threads are loopy on the bottom side of fabric, the problem is either your needle thread tension is too loose or you have a snag in your needle plate where you have broken a needle. Check needle plate and clear snag if any. Then tighten up your needle thread tension until both needle and bobbin threads are in middle of fabric.

I have a consew 230 and it is gathering on the bottom how do i ajust it

Pull the bobbin thread as it comes through the machine. Does it feel too tight? if so check the threading. if threaded correctly and still too tight back off small tension screw 1/2 turn at a time. see if that helps. carefull not to undo too far as the small screw will come right out and may be difficult to put back. This machine is for heavy, stiff fabric. If you're using thin fabrics, stop right there make no adjustment. You'll need a lighter machine. This is for upholstery and leather work. Even curtain/drape fabric may be too light. Thats the best I can do without seeing the machine.

I have a Necchi 537L it was sold as a comercial machine that could do leather. Mine wont do soft paper! Whats up?

This is not a commercial machine and will give you trouble trying to sew upholstery, especially if you use heavy upholstery thread. You will get loops on the bottom.
It will sew only short stitches,No matter how long the stitch length is, because it only feeds the fabric from the bottom and it will stick.
It should sew regular fabric with normal threads with no problems. There is a pressure adjustment on the top of this machine which may be where your problem is located.Look in your book for instructions. Also, make sure the feed dogs are in the highest position. I don't know how long you've had the machine but if it has been awhile, remove the needle plate and clean the lint out from between the feed dog teeth.
