Have TX-NR656 to shd tv. Setup incl AccuEQ OK. Sat Signal to Rec, then to TV HDMI & Optic from TV (red beam ON)to Optic #2 on Rec. Video OK NO Sound. TV Audio OK before Receiver installed.

It is always helpful if you give model and make of the equipment involved. We can be more specific and accurate that way.
It si a very straight forward connection and you need two HDMI cables.
1) Connect the Satellite Box's HDMI out to the Receivers HDMI In ( any one of the sockets labeled TV/SAT or Video AUX etc ).
2) Connect the Receiver's HDMI out to the TV's HDMI In.
Every thing will work fine except if you switch off the power of some receivers the TV will stop getting HDMI signals ( ie no sound or video if Receiver is Off )

The other way of connecting is to connect the SAT BOX's HDMI cable directly to the TV's HDMI In and if your SAT BOX has a digital Audio out ( Optical or Coaxial ) connect that to the Receivers Digital In. This way you will need only one HDMI cable and one Optic fiber or Coaxial cable. And the advantage is even if the Receiver is Off you can watch video and hear its sound through the TV.

Hi troy my names Josh i would be glad to be able to help you with your setup. First things first some people have a preference with they way they like things and for one do myself. I set up and intstalled my home theatre. I have receiver much like yours. On the back of your reciever you should have multiple inputs of coarse some for sound some for video. Your sound inputs would include digital optical, digital coax, standard analog which of coarse is the red and white RCA inputs and then a multi in which i doubt you have. So lets start simple If you have satalite or some form of cable i would assume you have your reciever box feeding a signal to your tv and the same for your DVD. I would recommend for your sat. that you connect your picture and sound strait to the tv rather it be component video or s video or standard video source or connect then for your sound strait analog to your tv thats just Red and White RCAs which will give you your sound to your tv. Repeat the same for your DVD depending on the kind of inputs and number of inputs you have on your TV. Now for the sound to your reciever. I ran digital sound from both my DVD and my Satilite to the reciever which means on the back of your recievers providing you have a similar configuration you would look for a plug on your dvd player that says optical thats your digital to run sound to your onkyo and the same for your sat or cable if you have a box look for either digital optical or a single digtal coax output that will also be ran to the onkyo for sound. You should only have two cables running to the onkyo one fiber optic from your dvd to the onkyo and one digital coax or fiber optic to your onkyo depending on the number of those inputs you have on the back of the onkyo you can run it how ever you want.

This model has a defective hdmi pcb assy. this is a well know defect with this model.If under warrenty have hdmi bd replaced if not the hdmi pcb assy retails around $350.00

easiest fix is to take all hdmi straight to tv. then come out of tv with optical cable to your receiver. that way what ever your watching will automatically be sent to the receiver thru optical. you even will get dolby dig. also you can have audio from your tv when you dont want to use your surround. keeps receiver on one input also.

Unfortunately only the higher end Onkyo Reciever pass audio over HDMI for sound. 605,705,805,905 exc. Your reciever will carry Video over HDMI but you will need a digital optical cable for sound.

try using a HDMI cable connecting the receiver from the "out" to the tv, then allocate through the setup menu what you have connected, say a cable box by hdmi, you would go to cable/sat allocate the port "hdmi1 or coax 1" then return. If it is a dvd click on dvd then allocate eg: "hdmi 2" then return.

The fiber optic port on back on your bravia tv is only for when your using a over the air antenna and watching local atsc channels in your local market. You need to run the fiber optic from your hd cablebox if it has one or your hd sat box if it has one. If you don't have a set top box with the fiberoptic port on it you can use a digital coax cable from the cable or sat box to sound system. The only other way to get sound if you don't have a cable or sat box is to run the red and white rca audio cable from the tv to the sound system and got to the audio setup on tv and turn the tv speakers off and you might have to adjust the audio to fixed instead of variable.

Go to hardware set up and turn off the hdmi audio output,sounds daft but it should work,also make sure the B speakers are not on as this puts the menu up the left.

ZONE 2 (living room)
DishNetwork Dual Tuner DVR Tuner 2 [Composite Video out] -> [Composite Video in] ONKYO TX-SR875 [Composite Video out] -> [Composite Video in] Samsung AQUOS LCD TV

Problem:
ONKYO receiver stops sending video signal to my ZONE 1 Sony TV through the HDMI connection. ZONE 2 may still receive video. (NOTE: the issue might be related to the upconverter circuitry?)

Symptom:
I couldn't see any video, but I could hear the Tuner 1 audio through my ONKYO. An important clue is that I couldn't see ONKYO's on-screen display menu on my TV when hitting the [Setup] button on my remote. But, I could see my TV's Sony-based menus and display options.

Solution:
1. Put all ZONES in Standby mode using the remote. Hit these buttons on remote: [Receiver], then [Standby]. [Receiver], [ZONE2], then [Standby], [Receiver], [ZONE3], then [Standby]. You should NOT see any lights on the ONKYO except maybe one red led near the power button.
2. Pull the power plug out of the back of the ONKYO, and leave unplugged for 20-30 seconds. Turning off any power center it is connected to isn't enough. You MUST unplug the power from the back of the ONKYO for 20-30 seconds.
3. Reconnect the power cord to the ONKYO.
4. Using the remote, set ZONE1 to a video source known to be working. If you don't see video, try leaving the power cord off for a longer period.

I know it sounds too simple to work, but that's what brought the video back for me the few times the video stopped displaying. Hope it works for you.

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.
