Had the same problem. The display of the home cinema system kept showing "sony demo". I went to the system menu and reset all settings to factory!

Even if the system is off, the system consumes power to display the clock and to stay responsive to commands from the remote. The power saving mode is introduced to reduce the amount of power consumed during standby. In this mode, the clock is not displayed. To change to power saving mode, press DISPLAY on the remote repeatedly while the system is off until the demonstration and the clock display disappear. To change the display Press DISPLAY on the remote repeatedly while the system is off. Each time you press the button, the display changes cyclically as follows: Demonstration mode t Clock display* t Power saving mode * The clock is displayed only when you have set the clock. To cancel power saving mode Press DISPLAY on the remote repeatedly while the system is off until the demonstration or the clock display appears.

Hello,

please use the "display" button on the remote control. You can change between different modes, eg. power save or demo.

BDV-E580 Sony Entertainment system "Demo Lock"

try turning it on and putting it in dvd function. Then hold the stop and eject buttons for about 5 seconds. The display should read 'demo off' then you should be able to operate normally.

Display demo

Could it have been knocked when in storage? Also try cleaning the lens of the CD player see if that makes a difference.

Demo Play

while the demo is playing you must press "Play"and "Stop" buttons, then display shows DEMO OFF and you can now take the DEMO CD out.
In some models you need to turn off the power and turn it on while pressing the EJECT Butoom.
