I need the puk code for my phone to work. My sister was playing with the pin code and it preventd me from using my phone at all until i put in the PUK number.

This problem is not related to your mobile phone , but has occured due to multiple incorrect entries of the sim card code , that is why your sim card has been locked and now it requires the PUK code.
All you need to do it the following .
Call your sim card's service provider with your friend's / brother's / sister's mobile phone , and then make sure that you give them your details for identity check and ask them for your OUK number.
They should give you the PUK number and then you can use it and your phone will be unlocked or your sim would be unlocked to be used.

I have seen a lot of posts here about unblocking a PIN and PUK code. Hopefully this tip will help Fixya users who experience this problem, at one point in time.
First of all, the PIN and PUK codes are not phone codes, they are SIM card codes. The PIN (Personal Identification Number) is a code that restricts access to your phone, through the SIM card. If you insert a SIM card that has no PIN restriction, you will not be asked for the PIN code. When you enter the wrong PIN more than five times, it will get blocked, and ask you for the PUK code.
The PUK (Personal Unblocking Code) is used to unblock a blocked PIN. If your PIN is blocked, use your PUK to unblock it.
Tip:
The PIN and PUK being SIM card codes, no one else can provide them to you, not even your phone manufacturer, except your network service provider. If you dont have your PIN and PUK, call your network service provider customer care and they will provide you with both the PIN and PUK codes, for free.

PUK and PIN are two security featurers provided by the service provider. She must have reached the PUK level of settings and set it on. The default PUK is 00000000 (eight zeros). But if you give wrong three or more times then the SIM gets locked and you have to ask your service provider to give you another SIM. And to retain the old number you have to buy the SIM. If this code works fine else contact the helpline of the service provider for another SIM. The default PIN is 12345 unless changed.
The PUK & PIN codes are Security Codes that are on the SIM card. PIN( Personal Identification Number ) PUK ( Pin Unlock Key). when the PIN code in entred wrong the SIM automatically Blocks the PIN. to unlock the PIN you need to Enter the PUK. but if you enter the PUK wrong the Entire SIM is Locked.
The PIN Code & the PUK codes are Only Known by your Network Provider. you have to get in touch with them to get the codes. how ever if you have PUK blocked you will have to get a replacement SIM
your PUK-code and PIN-code were delivered together with your sim-card. when the sim-card asks for a PUK, it is blocked until the PUK-code is entered. if you cannot find the PUK-code anymore, it is advisable to go to your service provider (cell phone dealer) and ask for a new sim-card with the same number. hopefully you had your contacts saved to your phone and not to the sim-card, because it's very unlikely that any data on a blocked SIM can be retrieved.
