My 80GB Ipod classic recently froze. I took it to Apple store and the guy press the Menu and Center Button. Hold them until the APPLE logo appears twice. Then release the button.
Voila, my Ipod work again, no missing data

Press the centre button on the ipod and hold it for 5-6 seconds. Then press the play button for about 5 seconds and it should put it in disk mode. Then you can restore it via itunes but unfortunatly it will delete all your stuff on it.

I have an 80g ipod classic my 4 year son locked it

this is not a problem.
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with
which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the
device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced
with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your
data will not be present Follow the steps that i have outlined below. If this does not completely help your situation
please let me know and i will be glad to assist you. According to Apple, if you have forgotten the code, you can unlock the IPod by doing the
following: 1 If you can't unlock IPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to
manage its songs. . . Plug the iPod USB cable into the bottom of the iPod Nano. 2 Plug the other end of the iPod USB cable into a free USB port on a Mac or PC computer. 3 Open the iTunes application by clicking on the Dock icon on a Mac or using the Start menu on a
PC. 4 Click on the name of your iPod Nano under the "Devices" list in the iTunes window. 5 Click on the "Sync" button to establish a connection between your iPod and the computer. 6 Click on the eject symbol next to your iPod's name after the syncing process has finished. 7 Unplug your iPod Nano. The device will be unlocked and you will be able to access all normal
features again. if that does not work you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please
note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod. If you want to change the primary computer that your IPod is associated with, do this: 1. Restore your iPod. WARNING: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data. 2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer. 3. Open iTunes and synchronize. Apple also notes that company "representatives cannot unlock an iPod if you forget your
combination. If you can't unlock your iPod and you don't have access to the primary computer,
your only option is to restore the IPod, which will erase all music and data." If you need further assistance please feel free to follow up with a comment and i will be here to
assist you. If this assisted you please feel free to rate the comment. thanks and have a great
day.

Restore the iPod using iTunes. If that doesn't work, if it is less than a year old you may take it back and Apple will give you a new one free of charge unless you did something to it like you dropped it or it got in the water.

The volume control is locked

The ONLY way to resolve this issue is to restore using iTunes. iTunes will restore the iPod. It is recommended to only have one iPod connected to one computer at a time. Also shairring your library should not cause the iTunes to not restore your iPod. If you are not wanting to restore the iPod due to not wanting to loose music, you will have to choose between unlocking the volume limit and keeping music.

It is locked up

Maybe i shud start by explaining why most Ipods freeze or crash. When you unplug you ipod improperly this may and usually causes the itunes software to crush and stop functioning. The softwares corrupts and cant function. So you probably cant enjoy ua music.
With the viruses in your computer its easily to infect your ipod since ipod is a mass storage device also. Some viruses have a way of freezing the itunes software.

When it comes to restoring your ipod you need a computer that is not infected with viruses. you need to format your ipod if it cant be restored directly from the internet. After the ipod is completely formated which means you have done away with the viruses/all the songs you can restore it with itunes.

But there is also a way of recovering songs from your ipod before formating or restoring since if you format you get to loose all ua files without recovering them.

But the biggest problem is when your ipod is not even recognized by your computer. But if your computer can recognize your ipod as a mass storage even if its not syncing your music, there is a possibility restore it to normacy. The only rist is loosing all your data, but with an expert you dont have to loose anything.
