My machine does not heat up on the steam side. I have opened it up and determined there is current going to both sides (elements) of the steam boiler. It does not matter how long you leave it on, it does not heat up. I am very familiar with this machine having stripped it down many times. I would like to troubleshoot this issue correctly before I start replacing parts. The espresso boiler functions normally.
Test each element for the correct resistance. Check the thermal fuses for a circuit, they are held onto the top of the boiler with a screw down bracket. Check for a circuit through the thermostat.
Resistance through both elements is 21.7. Is this normal? Can you replace elements or do you have to order a new boiler?
I was able to push the plastic cover back from both ends of the fuse and test the resistance which was close to zero. Then it broke. Not sure if it was broken or if I broke it taking it off/ testing it. Will replace.
There is close to zero resistance through the thermostat which I believe indicates it is good.
Element resistance sounds about right to me, I'm in NZ and ours are wired in series, if you're 120 volt I expect they will be wired in parallel. If you need to replace an element then that will bean at the very least a new boiler top. Can you do a live test with your meter and find where the voltage stops? Our models have a relay on them down behind the coffee boiler it switches power from coffee to steam boiler as both boilers are not powered up for heating at the same time.

jejones is right. try a coarser grind. it still makes great espresso, especially if you really pack a lot of ground coffee into the filter basket. Just make sure it is a bit coarser than you would normally use for machines without the dual wall filter basket.

I had the same problem of the boiler filling up all the way with water and the water was coming out of every hole in the machine. Turn the machine off, drain the boiler completely,
MAKE SURE VALVE #2 is CLOSED, this is the one under the drip pan all the way to the left. Turn on the water supply to the system and turn the system ON. The cup warmer on top will come on and stay on for anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes..... let it be,,, do not turn it OFF,, it will go off automatically. That should do it!

If the machine heats up for coffee, then the steam wand tips are probably blocked. Use a paper clip or needle to clear out the holes at the end of the steam wand.

While I am familiar with Kitchenaid espresso makers, I am not familiar with this problem. I would suggest calling Kitchenaid Customer Service, as you will have options under your Pro Line warranty. Their toll-free telephone number is:

Hi
If it makes a noise when you turn the brew switch on you may have a blockage in the out let line. If it doesn't make a noise but every so often you may have a bad pump.
