I had a coworker give me his old TV that he said just stopped working one day. I preformed a flashlight test just to see if it was a dead back light or something easy like that. Preforming the flashlight test i found that the TV had both Audio and video present so i quickly assumed it to be a bad back light inverter and ordered one off of Shop jimmy. After i got the new part I quickly put it in and to my dismay nothing changed. I took a couple of days off from the TV at this point then busted out the Volt meter. With the TV TURNED ON i am getting 0v off of the High and Low marked leads to the back light inverter . I am by no means a TV tech so before i replace the Power board im wondering if im correct in thinking the power supply is the culprit. Thanks in advanced for any kinda help !
You have to verify if there is power going in to the back light inverter. If there is power going in to it, check if there is power coming out. If no power is going in to the inverter work back to the source; most likely the main power supply area. It would be nice for you to have the shop service manual for the set if you are to spend some time on trying to fix it. You may need a scope to perform specific tests indicated in the manual.
If there is power leaving the inverter, then the problem and be the lamp assembly inside of the display. Depending on the model the display lights are not always serviceable.
