The DS4000 has a lock option available from the menu. press the menu and scroll untill you find lock. If you did not prposely lock the file, most likely the files on the memory card are corrupt. You will need to reformat the memory. The format option is in the menu as well.
Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $28.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.
Unfortunately the VN-4100PC is not compatible with a Vista 64 bit operating system. It will only work with a 32 bit operating system of Vista. You may want to call Olympus customer service and see if they can do an exchange for you to a VN-3200PC or a VN-5200PC as these recorders are both 64 bit compatible. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3. They are open from 8:30 am - 7pm EST.

This is because this device will never be compatible with a 64 bit VISTA OS. Olympus now has a VN-3200PC or VN-5200PC that are compatible with the 64 bit VISTA OS platform.
when the recorder is plugged into the pc, it will flash pc and be powered by the pc... but when the recorder is not plugged in, then the batteries are needed to power on
