I don't know what model you own, but all the models I owned did have a driving belt for the brushes. Usually situated at the bottom and can be accessed by removing the screws from the bottom cover. Hope this helps!
Almost certainly you have broken a drive belt. It is not a big deal though just turn it upside down and remove the base plate you should be able to access the belt from there. You should be able to get a belt pretty easy from an online retailer like vacuumspot
Remove the brush from the machine and clean as best you can.
At each end of the brush there is a plastic clip that holds it into the vacuum.
Add some WD40 between the clip and the brush and turn the clip around the brush until it moves freely. Do this for both ends.
Reassemble making sure the belt is properly installed.
If by roller you mean the beater brush that the belt is attached to, you might try taking the beater brush out of the unit and clean both ends. There should be some kind of plastic or rubber holders on each end of the beater brush. The brush itself is supported by these holders, but the brush needs to be able to rotate in the holders. Sometimes they get gummed up and need to be cleaned in order for the brush to turn freely. Clean them up, apply some WD40 and make sure the belt is properly attached.
Hope this helps.
Could be plugged, check the hose and at the bottom by the brush roll, the inlet maybe clogged. Also check the filter under neath the dirt tank. There are filters above the dirt container, clean those out. If after that it is still loud, then maybe the motor fan or bearins are bad and will have to be replaced, part #2031214 sells for around $55.
