I'm I agree with Joe. I have an Sony KDL-40X2000 and I saw it, very fragile and bad hdmi hole for cables (usually rigids). Even more one of my HDMI have same problem as Junh and I guessed it dead

The problem is that, according to the specs for that TV, it doesn't support 1080p.
That's a 720p television you've got. (Specs here)
While the specs say that it supports 1080p, the resolution says it supports 1366 x 768, which is only 720p, not 1080p or even 1080i.
You may want to contact Sony for clarification, because their specs for that tv are contradicting each other.

I had this tv for almost a year, and I experienced this exact same problem about 3 or 4 times. The only thing you can do is turn the tv off and unplug it for a couple minutes. When you plug it back in it will work. This issue along with the intermittent sound issue on HDMI fed sources drove me crazy until I exchanged my tv for a KDL-52EX700. So glad to be done dealing with Sony customer support...because they're TERRIBLE. I had to email a VP at sony to get any results. The picture is beautiful on the V5100 for a lcd, but it's not worth dealing with the other issues...it's a flawed model. Hopefully your tv is still under warranty...you will have to call Sony and tell them your problem. They'll send a tech to come out, and he'll probably change out the motherboard..it won't fix anything. Then they'll probably send a tech out again to do the same thing when you keep calling...eventually they'll offer you an exchange. That's how it went for me...it was a 7 month nightmare.

Check whether you can hear the sound through headphone, if the TV has a headphone socket. If it has, there are some internal defects.
