How do I empty the water from the main reservoir?

  • Turn off the Keurig coffee maker, and unplug the power cord. Allow the unit to cool for 30 minutes before emptying the water. This gives the water inside the hot water tank an opportunity to cool, helping to prevent accidental scalding when emptying.
  • Pull the lid off the top of the water reservoir. Lift the water reservoir straight up and to the right of the coffee maker. Pour out any remaining water in the reservoir into the sink.
  • Turn the small thumb screw on the back of the Keurig coffee maker counterclockwise with your fingers, and pull off the rear access panel. If the screw is too tight to turn with your fingers, use a flat-head screwdriver to turn the screw. Once you remove the access panel, a tube with a plug on the end is visible. Pull the tube out of the plastic clip holder.
  • Place a large pitcher behind the coffee maker. Hold the end of the tube over the pitcher, and pull the plug out of the tube. Allow the water to drain into the pitcher. If necessary, maneuver the coffee maker to the edge of the counter, and hold the pitcher alongside the counter with the top at counter level.
  • Push the plug back into the end of the tube once no more water drains from the hot water tank. Empty the pitcher of water into the sink, and push the tube back into the plastic clip holder. Position the back access panel onto the coffee maker and secure with the thumb screw knob.

    What is de-scale?

Descaling removes the deposits left behind from hard water. These mineral deposits will slow heat transfer if not removed from the heating element. To descale the coffee maker, use 48 oz of undiluted vinegar (household strength) and have a large ceramic mug to hold the output. Empty any water in the reservoir. Pour vinegar into the Water Reservoir and fill to the top of edge of the clear viewing area. Place a mug in the drip tray and press the Large Cup Button. (Do not use a K-cup.) When the brew cycle finishes, pour the contents of the mug into the sink.

Repeat the brew cycle until the reservoir is empty. Open and close the lid between cycles. When the reservoir empty, fill with water and let the coffee maker stand for 4 hours with the unit ON. After four hours, rinse the coffee maker by doing several brewing cycles (again without a K-cup). Discard the liquid after each brew cycle and repeat until the reservoir is empty.

You may need to perform additional brew cycles if you notice a residual taste.

For more information, including a pdf with the directions for descaling of the coffee maker, see http://www.keurig.com/customer-service/brewer-registration-and-support/frequently-asked-questions .
    I hope this helps.

    3-Pot coffee Maker instructions

The first time you use the machine you need to make sure it is full of water - before you plug it in and turn it on. Put an empty coffee pot under the brew basket and fill another empty pot with clean cold water.

Pour the water into the coffee maker. If water comes out then you can plug it in and turn it on. The water heating tank holds about 2-1/2 pots of water so if your machine is empty you will need to keep adding water before you turn it on otherwise you may burn up the heating element.

After the green light comes on - indicating that the tank is hot you can brew a pot of coffee. This machine is meant to be left on all of the time so it is always ready to brew. If you choose to turn it off when not in use, you will need to give it about 10 minutes to fully heat up the water before you brew.
