Sorry, they misinformed you!

On this model Sony the lamp access is located to the side of the set. You will see a small hook you can push down with you finger releasing the lamp outer cover. There might also be 1 screw to remove the panel.

Now you will see the lamp inner cover. It has a grey handle in the middle of it - to dark to see down there, get a flash light. Remove this by turning it counter clock wise. Now pull the cover out. Note the chip on the one corner of the cover. It can only fit back the same way.

Now you will find a slot you can fit your finger into. Pull this down and pull the old globe out.

FYI - If the globe has burnt leaving a white discharge behind inside the globe - great, your TV is healthy. If it blew with a black discharge I would suggest you take a hear dryer on cold setting and blown as much dirt from inside the globe cavity as possible. also try not to switch your TV on and off to often. If you leave the room and you know you will be back within a hour, leave the set on. You will much easier reach 8000 hours of globe life. 8000 Hours is possible, I have seen it before.

Now place the new globe into the socket. Just push it in until you feel the locking mechanism engage. Return the inner lamp cover. Turn the grey lever clockwise.

Now all that is left is to clip the outside cover into place. Put the screw back if there was one.

If you have to remove more than 1 screw - you have gone too far.

P.S There are certain lamps that does not have a clip, but rather a HEX key screw. You will receive this hex key if you bought a genuine Sony globe in the box.

Good luck.

  • Sony XL-2100U is Sony part number A1606034B which can be purchased online at http://www.partstore.com/

  • In most cases, replacing your projection lamp is quick and easy. However, it is recommended that you consult your owner's manual for more detailed instructions:
  • Unplug your TV from your power outlet
  • Allow the lamp to cool for at least one (1) hour before replacing it
  • Remove the Lamp unit cover (Usually located at the rear of the television)
  • Unscrew the lamp housing unit
  • Remove the old lamp housing unit and discard
  • Screw in the new lamp housing unit
  • Place the cover back onto your TV unit Caution: Do NOT touch the bulb directly with your fingers.

SOURCE: haze on the mirror pannels directly in front of the Lamp

    NO ALCOHOL!!!!!

The discoloration you see is dirt that has been fused into the lenses. You should see a Blue or Green discoloration on the to or left hand side of your screen when they start causing a problem.

Please do not quote me on this, but it works!!!

If you own a Dremmel Tool, use the polishing attachment and the brown polishing compound. Now gently polish not only the part of the lens that has discolored, but the whole of the lens. You need to do this until you have removed all of the shiny covering the factory sprays on the lens. If you do not, you will have discoloration all over you screen due to the change in bright ness caused by the couting not being uniform on the lens.

Caution, make sure to check which side of the lens is top ans whether the rounded block are pointing to the lamp or away from it. This will also cause endless probelms if you do not ut it right back they way you got it!

Further more you have to do both of the polorizer lenses, not just the one that is dull! Remeber you are not trying to get the lenses shiny, it will never again be... just get them uniform in surface dullness.

I have done this several times on the 42" as well as the 50". I have not yet had this problm on the 60" - They only crack the Blue LCD panel.

    Good luck.

Sony KF-50WE610 flahing red light (6 blinks)

Jeff, did you look at the Sony web site? They had a problem with 9 different TV models that were from 2003 and 2004, KF-42WE610, KF-50WE610, KF-60WE610 and 6 other models.
This is what it states: It haas come to our attention that a limited number of Grand WEGA rear projection TV's may exhibit warping to the lamp access door. In rare cases, some additional components may also become damaged as a result. and so on........
You probably have some components melted on the inside around the lamp. I have a 42 inch and I just replaced the lamp at Christmas and the door was melted shut. This is the second lamp that I have replaced, the door was starting to melt the first time. They never sent me anything about this problem, and as of today I am still trying to work something out with them. The repair shop who has it told me that it can't be repaired. The parts that are melted are not in stock and they don't make them anymore. They are supposed to get back with me and make me some kind of offer.
They will only fix this problem through March 31, 2009.

    Hi Lucian

This is a common Mainboard failure problem on Projectors.

The unfortunate thing is that this can only be solved by having the part repaired or replaced.
