Not quite sure since the symptoms are not clear. "Bumpy stitches from bobbin"--does that mean there were thread nests on the bobbin side of the fabric? That is thread nesting or bird nesting resulting usually from mis-threading, upper thread not completely seated in tension disk, or upper tension too loose. Remove the upper thread from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning--verify the thread path is correct. Set the upper tension to the midway point between high & low number and retest the machine. (Upper tension may need to be tweaked because fabric, thread, and age of the machine will have an affect.)

Check that the bobbin is wound smoothly--no lumps, bumps, or thread ends/pieces sticking out of the bobbin. Check that the bobbin is installed in the bobbin case correctly (turning the proper direction) and the bobbin tension is threaded completely.

If the upper thread is not picking up the bobbin thread, make sure to install a brand new needle. (I don't try to straighten or "fix" damaged needles. With today's computerized machines, it may cause more damage than a new needle would cost. That may work on the old mechanical machines like the Singer Featherweights, but my machines are too important to risk for the price of a needle.) If it still won't pick up the bobbin thread, then the machine's timing has probably been knocked out of alignment. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

In the main, I like the former answer. One thought - I have one machine, well - several, that take thin bobbins. And one or two that take the thicker ones. If you have the thick one installed in a machine that wants the thin one, then Nothing works. Just a random thought. I find repair shops just mess my machines up completely. Do that last....bobbin winders rarely mess up. So, set yr machine to it's widest zig-zag, and hand turn the wheel until the needle hits the needle plate. If the needle is bent, it will Not go through the slot. And, you will know which way it is bent. Gently push it back to center. Once or twice. And - check for burrs on the needle - you can feel them with your fingers. Use an emery board or a callous-block to smooth it.

Needles are getting pricey. I still have some of mother's, and both Great-Grandmother's. Use what you have!

I have dv9117, whenever I use the special stitches or even just the zigzag, it just keep doing straight stitch. Did all the cleaning, re-threading, taking out the bobbin and rewound bobbin thread. Nothing...

aside from cleaning, with a thread bunching problem it's always good to change the needle and make sure the top thread has not come off the thread take up lever and make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case.
as for the zig zag stitches, it sounds like a gear or cam could be damaged or worn.
if someone brought me a sewing machine with the same problem, the first thing I would check for is a damaged or worn gear..

I have a brother ls-2125 sewing machine. the upper thread is not catching the bobbin thread properly. help please

  1. Tension
    • Your sewing machine tension controls the rate at which the thread is fed through either the upper section of your machine or through the bobbin case. If your upper or bobbin threads aren't threading properly, sometimes adjusting the tension will correct this problem.
    Timing
    • Your sewing machine works by passing the upper thread through the needle of the sewing machine at precisely the same time the bobbin brings its thread to its uppermost position. If either the needle or the bobbin thread reach these positions too soon or too late, the threads won't interact and create the knots that make the seam. You can throw off your timing by sewing too many layers of fabric or hitting a pin with your needle. See you sewing machine repair facility to correct any timing issues.
    Thread
    • Thread can get snagged or caught in the upper section of your machine or on lint pieces in the lower bobbin section. If your threads aren't catching properly, you may be able to fix it by unthreading and rethreading both your upper thread and bobbin threads.

When I sew a seam, the bobbin stitch will just pull right out. Anything that I can try?

It has not been under tension when the seam was sewn, check your bobbin threading sequence and refer to your manual. The thread needs to click into a tension spring or similar device on all sewing machines.

When I start sewing the back of thread is all overlap and tangled what can I do?

A more detailed description would be helpful, but my guess is that you have lost all of your upper tension.
Unthread the machine. Raise the presser foot. Turn the handwheel until the take-up lever is at it's highest position. Set the upper tension dial/knob to 5. Thread the machine.
With the presser foot up, the upper thread should pull through easily and then grab when the presser foot is lowered.
Test sew.
The upper tension pulls the stitches up and the lower tension pulls the stitches down. When they pull properly, the stitch is even.

Top thread keeps breaking

This sounds like a backwards needle. Take out the needle and when you re-insert it back in, make sure that put the flat side to the back.

Keeps getting jammed

Hello,
Give these solutions a try.

* Un-thread your machine and remove your bobbin. Clean any loose thread or lint out of your
bobbin case. Re-thread your machine, reinsert and re-thread your bobbin.

* Change your bobbin as there could be a nick along the edge of your bobbin spool that’s catching your thread as you sew.

* When you start to sew a seam, Hold the upper and bobbin thread tails back and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting jammed in your machine.

I hope this helps.

Sewing a straight seam will be going well until the bottom thread suddenly becomes very loose and loopy. The top thread is completely fine. The only clue that this is happening is the spool "jumping"...

Hello,
Here are some solutions to try.

* Increase the upper thread tension on your machine. It may be too loose.

* Decrease your bobbin tension if your sewing machine allows you to adjust it. Consult your manual.

* Reinsert your bobbin. It may be inserted incorrectly.

* Change your thread. If your upper thread and bobbin threads are different types, try using the same thread for both.

Although you did this, it won't hurt to re-check. Make sure bobbin is threaded correctly.

Hope this helps.

Bobbin thread bunching

Check between the tension disc, sometimes you can get a piece of thread caught in that and it prevents it from tightening down and making a good stitch. Also, make sure that your presser foot is in the up position when you thread your machine.
