I have an older Cisco PIX 506 with two VPN connections. One links two offices (PIX-PIX VPN) together, another is for staff to access email & files. The file server on the local LAN the PIX is on are...

It could be a missing route... are the file server and email server on the same subnet? If they are then it is possibly not a routing issue.

Also it would be worth checking the tunneling settings for the VPNs... if you have specifed either only the fileserver subnet or specifically the file server address, then this could be the reason they can get to nothing else.

Hope that this has helped a little :)

I need to connect cisco 2800 router to my pc through hyperlink

I think you mean hyperterminal? you need a cisco serial cable (blue) and a serial port on your PC, maybe a USB to serial adapter if there isn't one. Set hyperterminal to use the COM port you have plugged in to, speed 9600 8 bit no parity. (8N1).
Without the serial cable you need to know the router IP and password.

How to reset password of pix 506e

Hi,

You only need a PC and a serial terminal. First of all you need to know the PIX software version you run. After that you must go to Cisco web page and get from there the utility for the password recovery corresponding to your version of software.

After that you must connect to the PIX console port. Press ESC key after the PIX is booting and a special prompt it will appear (monitor>). Issue the "interface" command to specify which interface to be active. Inside interface it will be the default one. Then use the command "address" to go with the IP address of the above interface. After that, you will need also an TFTP server where you must upload the software utility specified in the beginning of the solution (the one downloaded fron Cisco). After the "address" command, issue an "server" command to put the IP address of the TFTP server. Than, use the command "file example.bin", where the example.bin is the file downloaded from Cisco. Maybe you will need also to specify the gateway of your network. This you can accomplish by using the "gateway" command. Finally, use the "tftp" command to start the download.
The default Telnet password after this process is "cisco."Go into configuration mode and issue the passwd your_password command to change your Telnet password.

Good luck!

Best regards,
T

Protocol switching

Give each connection its own network & use Handshake authenication to access each other. You could also use a DMZ for 1(one) connection.
With this you will be able to use 1(one) External IP Address

Upgrade firmware on a cisco ASA 5500 firewall

This is for the pixes, I haven't upgraded an asa yet...should be close or the same

* find latest version of code, these are usually *.bin files located on http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/pix
* confirm the flash and RAM requirements of the PIX OS software versus what the PIX has (”sho ver”)
* make sure you have a backup of the old PIX OS and PDM to the tftp server (or at least confirm the software is there)
Note: You cannot back them up from the PIX, so you will need to download them and put them on the tftp server * put in a change control form
* once change controls confirms date/time do the upgrade:
wri mem*** only if you save your configs via tftp wri net conf t ca save all copy tftp://your tftp server ip/pix635.bin flash:imageskip this if you don't use pdm copy tftp://your tftp server ip/pdm-304.bin flash:pdm *** if this is a failover pair, upgrade the other pair reboot
