I have an old Wacker Portable Generator that when I pull the start cord, I have no resistance. It doesn't seem to be connected to the motor. How can I fix this?

It could be a few things:

1) The recoil has broken and needs replacing - remove recoil and inspect

2) the valves need adjusting - 0.015 inches on intake and exhaust, if not running right 0.020 inches for exhaust.

3) The piston rings are shot - To check remove the cylinder head and add a tablespoon of oil to the top of the piston. Leave overnight. If it disappears you need to replace the piston rings.

We also we sell parts if you need them :)

SOURCE: voltage on portable generator is running high appx 135vac

What do you consider high? If the voltage is between 115- 125 volts, it's fine.

SOURCE: I broke the pull cord on my generator; how do I

you should remove the housing usually 4 bolts
dont remove anything else then look at the pully and remove the old chord tie a knot in the new chord and slot it into the hole on the pulley
you should then see a notch in the edge of the pulley this is for the chord to sit in while you turn the pully enough times to tension the recoil spring once tensioned enough so that it recoils all the chord slot the chord through the hole in the outer casing through the pull hande and knot it job done then refit

SOURCE: troybilt 5500 generator pull cord locks up...just had it for one year...cord was very easy to pull @ first...but lately it locks up when I try to start it...any suggestions?

your cord is too long is why its binding up ,,,on the tee hand where you put your hand on to pull,,,,take a screw driver and push up the tied knot out and away from the tee handle,,,,take and make another knot about 8 inches and pull the cord back into the tee handle then try it again. Most have a long rope, cord etc for maximum pull,,sometimes they go overboard on the length and it binds up on the rewind of the recoil system

Testimonial: "Tony, Thank you for the help. You're right about the cord being long. It was a strain on my wrist to pull the length of the cord."

My electric demo hammer stopped working. Wacker is the brand name. The switch tests good.

Does it have brushes that need to be replaced. Check with a power tool supplier for advice/parts to repair

Good Luck

No electric output, how do I diagnose, capacitor, proper winding check etc.

Have you tried flashing your generator? Sometimes the magnets in the generator loose their polarity. Google and YouTube "flashing a generator"
HFLASHING the GEN

Sometimes the magnets lose their polarity. This worked on my brothers $1200 gen. Its worth a try. Good luck!
Check all wires/connections first, Then try this-
(Remove spark plug wire first!)
To flash the field on a small home use generator, get an ext. cord & cut off the female end of it & strip the wires & connect the wires to a 12 volt car or lawn tractor battery, & plug the male end of the cord, into the 120 A.C. side of the generator.

Make SURE that the black wire which is POS/HOT on an A.C. cord, gets connected to the RED/POS. side of the auto battery, & the white wire on A.C. cord gets connected to the BLK./NEG. side of the battery. If the ext. cord wires are not black & white, then the smaller prong of the plug is the POS./HOT

Plug the other end of the ext. cord into the generators 120 volt side (**remove spark plug wire**) & pull the starter cord 4-5 times, then remove the ext. cord, reconnect the spark plug wire, start the unit & plug something of 120 A.C. volts in to see if it works. Then let it run for about a half hour with 2 - 150 watt lights to help re-generate the unit.

I already broke one recoil starter assembly on my Astra Korea 3 kVA generator. I can start the generator, but with great effort. It takes about 6-8 pulls, and there's so much resistance that I can actually...

The easiest test to run on the generator is to remove the spark plug and see if it pulls easier. If it does then it is a compression problem. I doubt that is the case. If it does not then you need to take the generator off the motor and see if it still pulls hard.

If my generator shut off due to low lubricant will it reset automatically? If not is there a reset valve/button?

The pull cord is like a starter on a car (separate from the motor/engine). If the pull cord will not turn it could be because the motor/engine is seized.

My 5700 watt 11 HP McCullough generator wont start. I'm getting good gas to the plug but no spark.

The spark coil is bad if you have no spark

Small engine repair. Part is expensive.

Have you checked spark for sure?
1) Spray WD-40 directly into carburetor
If machine has spark, it will fire
2) Is exhaust port clogged with carbon and dirt?
3) Get new spark plug
Pull out old spark plug
Put spark wire on plug
Hold spark plug wire with fingers
Put spark plug threads against metal opening where spark plug came out.
Metal to metal
Pull cord or push starter
Look for spark between metal

No spark, then spark coil is bad.
