The incline is trying to calibrate if you let it do it till it is done it should stop. If it continually trys to incline every time you use it there is a incline sensor out of position or the console is bad.

1. Inspect belt and deck. The deck should be smooth. The belt should have a consistent feel from side to side (a belt can be worn out without any sensory signs of a problem). If you feel deep grooves in the deck or uneven wear on the underside of the belt, part replacement is necessary. Continued use of your treadmill may damage expensive electrical components. 2. To inspect the belt and deck visually or to clean underneath the belt before applying lubricant, the belt must have the tension reduced. Loosen the tension roller by following the instructions in your owner’s manual. Do not loosen the bolts in the tension roller too far or the bolts will come out of the roller shaft. This step may not be necessary for your treadmill model or belt and deck condition. 3. Contaminants are the worst enemy of your belt and deck. Some treadmills may have an excessive accumulation of dirt and contaminants. If these are trapped during the belt lube process, significant damage will occur. If contaminant removal is necessary, loosen the belt by following step 2, lay the treadmill on its’ side, and use a nylon brush to loosen contaminants that have accumulated on the inside of the belt. Clean the deck with mineral spirits in a well-ventilated area. Allow the deck to dry before lubing or tightening the belt. 4. After completing the steps above go to your local hardware store and purchase a can of silicone spray ( Pyroil, Napa etc ) attach the nozzle and proceed to spray length wise starting at the motor shroud to 2/3 down the deck repeat the process on the other side then re-tension the belt according to you owner's manual. Start unit and proceed to walk on it if the unit shuts down again then belt and deck needs to be replaced or your in the market for a new treadmill.

SOURCE: Pro-Form Crosswalk 395 - Incline goes up and down with no tread movement. Calibration doesn't work - only on display.

test the main board, with the output voltage from board for input voltage motor. If there are NOT voltage the board is faulty.replace see the block diagram, how the main boad control about 80% of the machine motion.

Why won't my treadmill incline or decline?

Hi there, checked both upper and lower bolted connections, and check that lift motor hasn't cracked and frame is intact with no blockages to a possible scissor arm-lift assembly underneath the unit ? If this all checks out, maybe a small gearbox on the lift motor failed internally. Good luck.

Not incline or declining

I expect there is a limiter switch that tells the treadmill when it has reached its maximum elevation. The switch is probably either malfunctioning or broke.

When starting my treadmill the incline just starts all by itself, all the way up, sounds like it would keep going if it could, then it declines, its stuck in this loop. the belt never starts and I cannot...

This sounds like the treadmill is running an incline calibration. It will run to fully inclined, then to minimum incline.
It should not do this every time you want to operate the machine, but they will do it automatically if the operation of the machine is stopped by the power being interrupted..

I have a older sears accusmart crosswalk duel motion proform model# 831.297303 12ov,60hz,12a : serial#E40156459. i just need to know how to adjust the incline to go up!

The instructions are in your owners manual. The manual is available at
http://www.iconservice.com/index.html
Under the motor cover you will find a tech sheet. It will give you the instructions to do a calibration of the incline.
On most of the Icon units sold by Sears, the incline calibration is simple. Start the machine, press the incline up button. Remove the safety key.
The machine should move to max incline then back to minimum.
You may want try try it twice..
If it all works well. the incline will work correctly, if not you may need the incline sensor replaced. Unfortunately, you cannot order the sensor separately, you will have to order the motor.
