Air Force saluting an officer in his office?

Hello, I am still rather new to the Air Force. I have scheduled a meeting with my commander who is a Lt Col and with a Colonel on my base who I have known since technical training. It is to formally request a letter of recommendation for OTS and graduate school. I ve decided to wear my blues for it as a sign of respect and appreciation for their time. If I m the one who scheduled the meeting, am I to salute when I first enter the office and when I leave? Thank you for any knowledge that you can provide.

If you are in uniform you have to salute a superior officer but saluting indoors is strictly forbidden unless you are formally reporting to said officer so yes you will need to salute their rank

Can civilians salute the American flag?

there is no "law" against civilians rendering a hand salute. some already do,i.e. Boy and Girl Scouts, Police, Firefighters.
The typical or recommended salutes are guidance written into the flag code which describes flag etiquette. just as there is no law that says the flag shall never touch the ground, it is etiquette and respect that guides us.

What's the best route to take to become a fixed-wing pilot in the military?

I recommend joining the Air Force if you want to become a pilot however, people don't just become pilots after having a Bachelors. You have to meet the requirements, pass the exams and be medically cleared and in shape, this applies to all branches. On the other hand its a challenge that only you can decide. I recommend talking to the nearest recruiter.
