It sounds like a safety switch issue. It may be possible one of the deck PTO safety switches has gone out or the connector plug is loose or broken. Some newer mowers have fuses located either somewhere around the dash or under the seat check to see if there are fuses and if one is bad it could cause a similar problem to a bad or disconnected safety switch
SOURCE: Stalls when engage blades in forward, but cuts fine in reverse
Did you try to disengage the safety feature that should shut the tractor off when the blades are engaged and the tractor is placed in reverse? I believe that it is located under the shift leaver
SOURCE: Cub Cadet-Blades won't stay engaged
sounds like either a saftey switch problem or a bad drive clutch on the pto. usuallly the mower shuts down, not the blades, they may have changed this though. my best guess would be a safety sensor try calling your local cub dealer and talking to the repair person he can shed light on the problem.
SOURCE: Blades will not disengage
SOUNDS LIKE THE CABEL IS BAD IF IT HAS ONE OR THE ENGAGEMENT IS BENT
Testimonial: "This is what I concluded too. I have ordered the part, and we'll see."
SOURCE: After stopping, tractor does not engage in forward or reverse
sounds like the by pass rod has been pulled out
SOURCE: Bolens clutch wont engage
check to see if there is something caught around the blades that won't allow to turn
