My guess would be its the fan that cools the lamp. They tend to get dirty.

Your Mitsubishi projector has a srevo controlled shutter that is used to enhance the blacks. The noise you hear is the high speed srevo motor responding to the video information. This is normal. You should not hear the noise when the volume is at a normal listening level. If you can hear the noise over normal volume then your servo motor may have a bad bearing.

Not too sure about the thumping, possibly the cabinet expanding and/or contracting with heat, the lack of and weather change. But the scratching sound could very well be the HV discharge. So, not being able to hear it myself, I would suspect that yes it's probably normal.

TV getting no signal, it is on channel 3.

Base on model number: make sure none of the inputs work---will narrow things a bit.

This model should have two resets(not the one on front of set) , a soft and a hard---the soft is done with the original remote:

Set turned on: Menu, 1,2,3 and enter.

What causes the TV to go on and off when first turned on, until it warms up for 5 to 10 minutes

Try turning the volume all the way down then power the TV an see how
long it takes to bring a screen up if you still hear a popping sound then you have a bad part with a bad connection most likey a lamp and wiring.
Call to have it serviced a must if so.

Volume automatically goes up, up, up even while turning it down

If the volume button on the TV itself is doing this, I recommend taking it to a TV repair technician considering this will require knowledge of the internal mechanics. There are several causes for this however the most common is corrosion and broken linkages inside of the panel.

If you're refering to your remote itself - there are ways to help these issues:

After removing the batteries - Using a phillips screwdriver, you can remove the mounting screws and open up the remote (may have to pry it open gently with a flathead or soft tool) . Underneath the top (where the rubber buttons extrude), there should be a flimsy sillicone sheet which connects to the board underneath. Thoroughly clean it with q-tip and rubbing alcohol to extract anything that may have spilled inside crossing connections or debris (dust, etc..).

Usually, this solves the most common button issues.

I have a 42inch sharp aquos LCD tv and there is no power. The power button keeps blinking. There is no picture and sound. What is the fix to this problem.

Power problem are cause by many reasons, i.e Power supply circuit, Lamp driver circuit and most often the TV detects an error cause by power surges. To protect TV from further damage most LCD TV have protection circuit built internally. If this is the reason of your LCD TV not powering On, an error data must be reset back to zero.
To change data you will need to access the service mode and change the value of lamp error code to zero (0). Entering service mode requires a trained TV technician. Changing data can cause more problem to your television. If you are not qualified to service your television, please do not go to service menu codes. Moreover below are the process, pls do so at your own risk.
* Unplug the TV * Press and hold the {VOL -} + {CH+} buttons located on LCD TV unit (not in remote control) Note: If above didn't work, alternately use (VOL -) + (TV/AV input) buttons located on LCD TV unit (not in remote control) * While holding the above buttons, plug in the TV. * The TV will turn on with the "K" or "K123" appears om screen. * Use {CH+} {CH -} buttons to go and display the service menu. Note: If above didn't work, alternately use (VOL -) + (CH -) buttons. * Search for "LAMP ERROR menu" from the displayed service menu by using "up or Down cursor" from remote control, or alternatively use "CH - or CH+ to select "LAMP ERROR" * change it to zero (0) value, using {VOL+} or (VOL -) on remote control. * Turn the set off to exit the Service Menu.

My 2005 WD62725 just started getting wavy lines on it. Everything works good (i have picture and sound and all functions) but the lines started first only when a non-HD signal was coming in. Now it has...

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

MY 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS JUST SCRATCHED MY SONY BRAVIA TV WITH A MAGNA DOODLE PEN. HOW CAN I GET RID OF THE SCRATCHES?

Clean the surface of the LCD screen with a barely damp cloth.
  • Step 2 Dry the screen with a soft, clean cloth.
  • Step 3 Rub a generous amount of petroleum jelly into the scratch using a cotton swab. The petroleum jelly should fill in the scratch and remain there.
  • Step 4 Immediately wipe the excess petroleum jelly off of the screen with a soft cloth being careful to leave some petroleum jelly inside the scratch to act as a patch or filler.

  • This scratch repair method is effective because of optical density. The optical density of petroleum jelly matches the plastic, LCD screen coating more closely than that of air.
  • To avoid future scratches or gouges, you might consider purchasing a LCD screen protector. These screen protectors are generally made of a thin, plastic film and affix to the screen without adhesives. Not only can they protect against scratches, but they also keep the screen free of dirt, oil and dust while simultaneously reducing glare.
  • When wiping the screen as described Step 4, avoid pressing too hard or you will inadvertently remove the petroleum jelly from inside the scratch.
  • Using petroleum jelly to fill a scratch on your LCD screen could void your screen's warranty. If you are concerned about warranty issues, consult your user's manual for more information.

I have a philips Matchline tv (29pt6361/79r) the tv works fine except it automatically turns the volume down without any buttons on the remote or tv being pushed

well depends on how far it turns the volume down as to what the cause is and if the volume bar on screen display comes on when the vol. goes down. if it just goes down a little you probably have the "smart sound" setting turned on in the audio menu turn it off and see if prob. goes away. if the vol. bar comes on the screen whenever the vol. goes down the you most likely have a bad button on your front panel and it doesn't have to be the vol. down button. it you think it is the button it would need solder work to be changed most likely shop job.
