After a series of stop start problems I have tested the 5k pot ( made by Clarostat) on my friends Pride Legend and it is very unstable. I have purchased a linear 5k potentiometer of a high specification from the defence industry (PN RA20SASK502A). I've fitted the pot, but the legend barely crawls. I downloaded the Curtis 1228 motor controller handbook from their website and it explains that with a Curtis 1311 programmer I could adjust the dead band and response rate. Am I on the right track?

I have a Pride Legend XL. I tried to get the wiring diagram, but
Pride USA would not give it to me.

They told me to call the dealer instead. I had a problem with reverse throttle creep, where the brake would not engage and it kept rolling back on me.
Had to call the local dealer to do the intial trouble shooting
(who knew exactly what the problem was) to the forward reverse throttle control pot.. I was able to order the throttle pot and replace it myself.

The problem is that Pride uses some potted modules in the tiller
and the control area, although you can find pretty much
all the parts for Pride from monsterscooterparts.com,
they don't have the wiring diagram for mine either.

I am disappointed in Pride, who want to keep their
service manual with the wiring diagram a big secret from
the owners and only the dealers have it.

The legend has a Curtis controller. The flash codes you provided points the problem to a faulty throttle pot. If a new throttle does not fix the issue, then your problem is the controller itself.

hi , that is a throttle pot error, check the pot itself to make sure it's not come loose and check the connected wiring ...

hi, can i ask you what the pot was like , a electronic one or mechanical one ?

If it's Electronic check there is a 24v - + plus voltage on the red and black cable. This is a common problem with these scooters.

hi i hsave a pride legend classic mobility scooter it will run ok for a few yards then suddenly stop but if u wait for a bit it will go again whats the problem thanks

Hi, sounds like the speed pot that is attachment to the throttle lever is worn and needs replacing, this is normally a 5K pot,

hi, first you need to check the connections to the batteries then to the motor controller, and don't dismiss the speed pot, disconnect the speed pot and try a normal 5K pot inplace of it, if the scooters responds you find the problem just a case of getting the right speed pot. Check the freewheel switch, normally it located on the motor side.

My Pride Colt XL8 keeped cutting out (7 flashes of LED, Speed pot error) , checked all the cable connections up tiller arm as recommended by Pride technical support, worked for about a week, then problem returned. Eventually took to Pride dealer, with problem occasional occurring,they found it to be the lower tiller cable support bracket straining the cables connector intermittently and so removed the bracket, the problem then was solved !

what about the overall connection , start at the handlebars from the speed pot,

Take off the rear cover , first remove the seat, pull the connector one by one and plug back in,

chec kthe connectors around the speed pot , in particualar if there is a circuit board.

This sounds like a bad throttle pot. You need to have it replaced.
