Singer stylist E2 error code bobbin winding
I have just repaired a 7258 with a frozen bearing unrelated to the E2 code except that I thought I would lube the entire machine while it was apart, and through my ignorance, I greased the clutch that releases the mainshaft when winding the bobbin, and then when the clutch wasn't working correctly, caused the E2 error. I can say the E2 error is not caused by a plug not seated correctly, too much tension in the bobbin thread, or God having a bad day. The E2 error code is thrown when the bobbin holder is in the wind position, and the mainshaft rotates. There is a clutch just behind the hand knob on the right side of the machine, and if it has too much lubrication with a stiff grease, or on an older machine, if the lube has dried out, the clutch will not release properly. I took the clutch apart, cleaned the grease I put in it, and then lubed it with bicycle silicone oil. It now works as designed. The hardest part of the repair was figuring out how the plastic cases split apart! If anyone in the SF Bay Area has a 7256, or 7258 that gives the E2 code, I can fix it - it's actually kind 'a fun...
