I have just purchased a Tokina 100mm F2.8 for my Nikon D610 and cant get it to Autofocus the lens is deffo in the right mode.

My experience with lenses is that they either work or they don't. If it does not work "as you usually used it", then there is a problem inside the lens and not something the average photographer can repair. Lenses are quite fragile, a slight knock on one occasion can damage the inner bits which are very intricate and more so with motorised lenses. I have experienced a battery problem error message through a damaged lens housing and the battery also subsequently got damaged through short circuit inside the lens mechanism. Send it for a check-up and repairs!

Yes. In general any Nikon lens made in the last half-century will work on the newest Nikon cameras, and this lens is no exception. Be aware that on most Nikon bodies (everything except the D700 and the D3 family) the smaller sensor will make the lens behave as if it were a 42-150mm. Also, on the lower-end bodies such as the D3000, this lens will not autofocus.

The Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG will not autofocus with the D40 since the lens does not feature an internal focusing motor (HSM). The D40 does not have an AF motor in the body and hence it can autofocus only with lenses featuring an integrated motor (eg. Nikon AF-S lenses, Sigma HSM lenses, Tokina DX II series etc). Unfortunately you can use the said lens only in MF mode.

Only the MkII version of this lens has an autofocus motor built in, the MkI relies on a motor in the body of some Nikon AF SLRs to autofocus. The D70 does not have an inbuilt AF drive motor, so if you have the MkI lens then you can only use it in manual focus mode on your camera.

If the Phoenix lens is autofocus (AF) in Nikon mount, it will work with the D90. You may find that you want to switch to manual focus when you are using it for macro shots for better control of focus. It will still set exposure properly when set to manual focus.

If the d70 is set to AF-S mode focus has to be achieved for the shutter to be allowed to take the photo. In some exposure modes the aperture must be locked down on the smallest aperture. I would also make sure the contacts are clean that allow communication between the body and the lens. Of course you need to make sure the body and the lens are set to autofocus. If none of this works I would have it looked at by an authorized service technician. I hope this helps!
