May have sheave timing key. It hold the flywheel in time. Pull shroud, remove big nut, remove flywheel, replace key in flywheel and crankshaft. 2 dollars for key.
is the handle hard to pull?or pull back at times?any way pull the flywheel off and check the key that aligns the crank and flywheel in time they shear when you hit rocks
Unless the blade is belt-driven, like on riding mowers, then the blade is attached directly to the engine crankshaft. Hitting a rock with a mower like this is a very common problem. You probably have a bent crankshaft. In most cases this can be repaired, but may not be worth it, considering the age of the mower. But you should call a local small engine/mower repair shop to ask for an estimate. The repair is not something you would be able to do yourself.
Maybe the ignition module is gone bad. It helps fire the spark plug to make the motor to run. Also if it has a stop cable on it make sure the cable pulls back far enough to pull the flywheel brake off the flywheel. If your mower was running then quit, it sounds like the ignition module bad.
The hose you reconnected was probably for the air to the air filter. Check to see if while the hose was disconnected it pulled grass or dust into the air filter. Check the air filter, try running the mower without the filter. If it runs then replace or blow out the air filter. Hope this helps.
When you let it sit did you remove all the fuel or add a additive? If you did not then I would recommend that you remove all the fuel and add brand new fuel to your system. Gasoline only last for about 3 to 4 months before it will start to go bad and this sounds like your problem
