Question about Dell Studio 1737 Laptop
Sorry for the last answer. The expert probably didn't understand your question.
If you have purchased the optional backlit keyboard, the right-arrow key will have the backlit keyboard icon on it. The backlit keyboard provides visibility in dark environments by illuminating all symbols on the keys. The settings for this keyboard can be personalized by using
Backlit Keyboard Brightness Settings – Press <Fn> + right-arrow key to toggle between the three lighting states (in the given order).
The three lighting states are:
a. full keyboard/touch pad brightness
b. half keyboard/touch pad brightness
c. no lighting
Hope this helps. If you need the manual for this computer, it is located here:

Vista has nothing to do with your keyboard, if anything, it would be an installer with dell, or a driver. Make sure you have all the correct software installed from dell.com. There may also be a way to do it by using the Function(Fn) key plus one of the Function buttons at the top of your keyboard...so it would be : Fn + F3 or something similar.

On the Studio 15 it's Fn-F6. It actually has the lighted keyboard icon on the F6 key.
