Bob,

Not sure what generator you have, but there are videos on how to test the portable generators on this page:

SOURCE: Generac portable generator doesn't produce power

Remove front cover on the genset and you will see the brushes and rings. Clean the rings if black with emory cloth and inspect brushes. Flash the fields by apply a 12V battery to the brushes. the brush closest to you or the bearing is connected to the positive side of battery and the back brush is negative. You have to do this with genset running. You should notice your voltage climb up to over 50Vac maybe even over 100Vac. Make sure to use rubber gloves when flashing fields and keep hands away from rotating parts. if voltage does increase when flashing the the voltage regulator is shot. If voltage does not climb then you will need a new genset or generator end.

Engine runs fine but probably overloaded the generator. Is it just brushes or coil too.

Site unseen i would say its neighter the brushes or the coil . And more the likely the problem is with a transformer converting the DC off the generater to AC for your output . If the engine runs ok and the armature in the generater spins ok and you don;t have a million hours on it should work at least somewhat . Try testing the output on the AC side see what you get for AMPS you will need a muilty meter set to AC amps

No or little ac output

By ac you mean receptacles, not ac welding?
If so what about welding output on AC (DC)?

If welding is OK then you may have breaker or fuse problem.
If welding output is also low or no output your problem is the generator.
You should check your gen rpm to be normal. If so you may have field problem: rectifier, AVR etc.
If you can measure the field DC voltage at rated rpm, if it is missing (very low) try to find any circuit broken.
If you do not succeed answer this instruction in order to give you more.

Exl800 no ac output

I would assume you checked circuit breaker on unit? There should be one over each receptacle (push to reset) and a 2 pole for the twistlok receptacle. Also check to be sure GFCI receptacles aren't tripped. Have you tested the output with a tester? If none of these are the problem , then most likely it is in the generator itself. They do have a 1year warranty (2 year parts)

McCulloch Generator model FG6000mk 11hp run good until I turn on generator then stop running do you think the generator bad and can it be rebuild ?

I did not understand how you turn on generator, as it is always turned on.
If you use the ON/OFF switch it is stopping the prime mover.
If you reset the AC breaker without load, and it stops - it means that you have short circuit after the breaker. Check the output receptacles.

Had to use it over the weekend, had coffee maker, tv and sat.receiver hooked up then it just quit. Breaker wasn't tripped, and the meter showed 120v output, tried different appliance's but no power at all....

Wow, your meter showed that you had 120v to each of your outlets as it was running? And when you would plug in one of your appliances, they wouldn't work? Mmm, something's not right here...:). Not sure if this problem has been resolved yet (just looking at the date), but I would start from scratch again. Turn everything off (breakers, etc). Start the generator again. Then turn your breakers on ONE at a time. Use your meter to check out each receptacle. Do this on EACH one. If everything checks out okay, then turn on ONE plug at a time again, check with meter again, and then use a low amperage appliance to plug in - and see if it works. Yes, it sounds tedious - but we're doing the process of elimination to really rule a lot out. Unfortunately, coffee maker's (because of their heating element) draw a majority of the load, so having this on the same circuit with other component's can affect things also. If you've repaired this already, great! If you had a minute, I'd be interested in hearing what the problem was. And if you haven't fixed it yet, feel free to contact me again - and I'll help you through with this. Best of Luck to you! - Jim

Genset starts and runs fine but the 30 Amp circuit breaker trips as soon as a load (AC) is applied. Started right up, ran half a day, but now when it starts the minutes I click on the ac the circuit...

What about when you have it powering the motorhome, without AC on, does it trip then? Do you have anyone you know with a multimeter and knows how to use it? How about buying a plug in voltage meter at a hardware store as a good start. You simply plug it in to a receptacle in your motorhome and it will tell you the incoming voltage and they are not very expensive. That will help diagnose generator problem.

Guardian generac 10kw model 5502 does not output correct voltage

the instructions says the voltage regulator is automatic/digital. when you check the voltage is there any load on the generator? if applying load to the generator doesn't help, you can manually change the motor speed where the governor connects to the carborator, but it may change the frequency, but the regulator may fix it
