You have to take off the clear strip of plastic over the copper area, or the printer will not detect it. There should be a green pull-tab on the cartridge.

SOURCE: HP DeskJet 930c is leaking black ink

The printer primes and cleans the cartridges when the cartridges go to the right side of carriage. Sounds like a cartridge has either leaked or you have used it enough the the ink pool is full, or you have layed the printer on its side or back. From experence, if ink is leaking out of the printer, your probley better off getting anithe printer. I have tried to take the covers off and clean inside print, and it is a messy job.

How to clean ink cartridges HP deskjet printers

You need the following items to clean the print cartridges:

• Distilled water (tap water can contain contaminants that
can damage the print cartridge)
• Cotton swabs or other soft, lint-free material that will not stick
to the print cartridge

Be careful not to get ink on your hands or clothing as you clean.

To prepare to clean

1. Open the HP Deskjet cover.
2. Wait until the print cartridge cradle moves to the
center of the HP Deskjet and is idle and quiet.
3. Remove the print cartridges and place them on a piece
of paper, with the copper strips facing up.

CAUTION: Do not leave the print cartridges outside the HP Deskjet for more than 30 minutes.
To manually clean print cartridge contacts

1. Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water and
squeeze any excess water from the swab.
2. Gently wipe the print cartridge copper contacts with the cotton swab.

CAUTION: Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles. Touching the ink nozzles will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections.

3. Repeat this process until no ink residue or dust appears on the swab.
4. Insert the print cartridges in the HP Deskjet, and then close the cover.

HP DESKJET 5600 ENCOUNTERED ERROR WHEN POWERED ON

If the new (or refilled/reman/compatible) HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridge refuses to print black/color and/or fails to function at all (i.e. blinking ink lights on Deskjet 5000, 5100, 5500, 5600 or 5800 series printers) or fails to complete the printer alignment following cartridge installation, then the ink cartridge either has a connectivity issue with the flexible printed circuit cable (inside unit where cartridge mates with cable), the rear cartridge contacts or cable contacts are dirty with ink residue, or the cartridge is suffering from marginal internal electrical performance. It is suggested you perform the TAP 43 (and TAP 10) DIAGNOSTIC PRINTER TEST to evaluate the ink cartridges electrical performance. Visit Inkjet411 support site to see instructional video: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=2358
Also verify that the cover interlock switch (at top-right side of printer) is closing properly - you may need to place a thick shim (1/4 inch by 1 inch) into the door switch port to enable printer to properly energize (I would check this first). This Deskjet printer series is known to have a top cover closing issue (the top covers warp over time unfortunately).
NOTE: For the HP Deskjet 5000 series printer models, when you get an HP 56, 57 or 58 integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. currently offered at Costco or Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels are not initially reset. However, continuing to use an ink cartridge which displays LOW INK alerts is permitted by the printer, simply select OK, CONTINUE or DISMISS when these alerts are observed. Now, it is possible to reset the ink levels by performing the procedure outlined on Inkjet411's site: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1915
To clean the HP 56, 57 or 58 ink cartridges please visit the Inkjet411 site which provides recommendations on how to clean the electrical contacts, flex driver cables and how to perform a hot water flush of the cartridge nozzle plate (refer to video): http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

Will HP 60 ink cartridge work with HP Deskjet 2460? Tnx.

This is all HP recommends for the HP Deskjet 2460, so I wouldn't suggest buying anything else. First of all it might not fit and second, even if it fits, other issues may come with using those. If you can't see the list here it is:
HP 21 Black HP 21 Black Twinpack HP 21/22 Black/Color Combo HP 21/22 Quad Pack HP 22 Tri-color Twinpack HP 22 Tricolor HP 58 Photo

How to change ink in HP Deskjet F480 printer???

  • Check the ink levels by opening the HP Solution Center. Click on "Settings." Click on "Toolbox." Click on "Services." Click on "Service this device." Click on "Estimated Ink Levels." A graphic will appear showing the estimated ink level in each cartridge.
  • 2 Verify that the unit is on. Open the print cartridge door allowing the print carriage to move to the far right side of the unit. Once the print carriage has stopped, lightly press down on a print cartridge to release it. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot. To replace the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the left. To replace the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the slot on the right. Place the cartridge in a plastic bag as it may still contain some residual ink and may leak.
  • 3 Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging. Remove the plastic tape by using the pull tab, being careful to not touch the copper-colored contacts or the ink nozzles under tape.
  • 4 Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Gently push the upper part of the print cartridge until it clicks into place. The tri-color print cartridge fits into the left slot. The black or photo print cartridge fits into the right slot.
  • 5 Close the print cartridge door. If the print cartridge alignment sheet prints, load it on the left front corner of the scanner glass with the top of the page to the left. Verify that there is plain paper loaded in the input tray, and then press the "Scan" button to align the printer.

Light flashes cartridge change, and change the cartridge and still flashing hp deskjet 920c

    Hi,
Make sure Orange protective cap (tape) has been removed from the bottom of the ink cartridge.
Either ink Cartridge is not installed properly or the function for detecting the ink level is disabled. Make sure that you install ink cartridges at correct position as indicated by the label on the print head holder. Press PUSH mark until ink cartridge click into the place.

Hope this will solve your problem.
    Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a new HP Deskjet F4280 bought 3 weeks ago & the blank ink cartridge was empty & I refilled it in a store & placed it back but printer recognise that the cartridge is empty & it does not have a chip.

You cannot reset the ink level for the HP 60 ink cartridge. Simply ignore the ink level indicator if you refill your cartridges. It is only an estimate of the ink level anyway. See pg 72 of the user manual.
