Lg model lds5540 smells, will not clean properly and doesn't seem to have enough water during cycle. also occasionally shows the fe error code. ??? any thoughts?

The FE error code indicates the washer is overfilling. This is usually the result of a faulty water valve.

1. Close both water taps.

2. In order to drain out any trapped water, power the washer back on and press the Spin Speed button until No Spin is selected and press the Start/Pause button.

3. Once the washer has drained, restart the wash cycle.

Try first unplugging power cable for two minutes, this can clear error code if there is no real problem with your appliance.

Hello. I need the make/model number to help you accurately. If you have a Samsung washing machine, the IE error code pertains to a defective water level sensor. The "pressure switch" tells the computer how much water is in the tub at any given moment. It will have a tube (plastic or rubber) connecting it to the bottom of the tub. As water collects in the bottom of the tub, air is pushed into this tube and against the sensor. The sensor can fail in 2 directions. Your washer will not fill with water at all because it thinks there is already water in the tub(the tube is clogged)--or disastrously, keep filling until it overflows and floods your house because it constantly thinks there is not enough water. This can happen when the hose is loose on the sensor, a pinhole has developed in the hose and proper pressure won't build up which will give the sensor inaccurate information, or the sensor is just defective.
The FE error code refers to a "frequency error"--something is wrong with the incoming AC power supply--If this is an LG machine, then the error code is the pressure switch again--Sorry for the ambiguity but different makes have different meanings for the error codes--anytime an overfill condition exists, I first suspect the pressure switch, then I check the wiring harness connections, lastly, I suspect the main control board. The FE error or fault code indicates that the washer is overfilling due to a defective water inlet valve. The valve is not repairable and will need to be replaced. If the error persists even after the water inlet valve has been replaced there may be a problem with the main control circuit board

there are multiple fill valve/solenoids. how many did you replace?

From the manual ,FE means Water level is too high due to a faulty water valve. hence the possible leak

FE error code means water is overflowing. The water is over 8 level.When FE is displayed, the drain pump will operate to drain water automatically. Otherwise the pressure switch assembly is malfunctioning. Check and replace if necessary. Part number is 6600FA1704X.
The pressure switch assembly shuts off the water inlet valve when the desired water level is reached. It then activates the drain pump when the water inlet valve is not deactivated.
