Blue ray region cannot be controlled by any universal remote control; other that its original one. You can control its DVD and CD regions.

You can't control its Blu-ray region with a universal remote control. Can adjust its DVD region, with a URC. 0029,0021,0274,0279,0270 are the codes to check. If you wish to get more codes and other details,

some DVD's will let you manually start them on the Sony blu-ray and the Sharp Blu-ray players. Other DVD's require the remote control. It is probably the DVD and not the blu-ray player. Pick up a inexpensive universal remote if you cannot find the original. Sony devices are easy to program on any universal remote.
