The Sony STR-D311 only has analog audio inputs. If your TV has an analog audio output, use the appropriate RCA cable (2 M/M plugs on each end, usually red and white). If your TV has a headphone jack, use a 3.5 mm to RCA adapter. However, if your TV only has digital audio outputs, you will need a digital to analog audio converter, like this: https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Optical-Analog-audio-converter/dp/B004C4WPXA . You will also need the appropriate analog audio and digital audio cables.

The manual for the receiver is on the product support page: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-find.pl?mdl=STRD311 . The direct link to the manual is currently https://docs.sony.com/release//STRD311.PDF .

I hope this helps.

How to hook up to panasonic tv & sony dvd player

DVD output (HDMI) to HDMI input on TV will transfer both audio and video from DVD to TV. Audio output on TV to unused Input on Yamaha receiver (Aux, CD, etc.). This hookup will allow DVD and TV channels audio playback through your Yamaha receiver. Remember to test any/all new hookups or connections using minimum settings (volume, etc.), and bring up levels slowly for the initial testing.

Sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.
