Printer can't feed paper from tray

Printer was working fine. It ran out of paper. I put new paper in the tray. Now when it goes to print it makes a cry as it tries to get paper, fails, cries again, fails, etc until it quits with an error. If tried filling the tray, flipping the paper, half emptying the tray, trying with a few sheets of paper only. No difference. It will, however, print fine from the manual feed slot.

I tried the proposed solution, loosened the tab holding the back of the paper so there was some slack. I also tried loosening the side retainers. It made no difference.

I can manually feed paper in the slot as if coming from the paper drawer. The printer takes it, but I have to feed it in several inches before it is grabbed. However... There are three rollers on the underside of the printer - one smooth and two with grooves. The smooth roller rotates when the printer is trying to feed the paper. The two grooved rollers, however, do not rotate. Is this normal?

I tried cleaning the feed rollers (one on tray, three on underside of printer). No dice. I see the two grooved feed rollers under printer do not rotate when printer is feeding paper.

You may need to clean the rubber feed roller with a damp towel, water only, or if parts are broken or missing, a new paper tray, around $20.00

In the tray there should be a little pin that slides up against the paper
slide that back, take out all the paper set it to print and manuly feed
in a single sheet from the tray, if the sheet is taken the probelem is
in the tray. try reoraintating the paper or tilting the printer so the paper
slides towards the feed.
!! dont tilt it to much as this can cause the printer to jam !!

How to print with the legal paper?

Hi,
follw the given step and check-
1-Before printing your document, be sure the page size is set to legal paper. Go to "File> Page Setup" and then click on the "Paper Size" tab. Select "Legal" from the drop-down menu.

2-Go to the printer and take out the paper tray. Remove the letter size paper.

3-Insert about one half of the package of legal size paper into the tray, depending on the depth of your tray. Larger printers can accept an entire package, while smaller ones cannot.

4-Make sure that the paper goes underneath the metal clips located at both the front and back of the tray.

5-For printers that don't have a tray, you'll have to manually feed the legal size paper. Locate the paper feed either on the front or rear of the printer.

6-Put a few sheets of legal size paper into the paper feed. The paper should be placed as close to the rubber spindles as possible. These spindles will draw the paper into the machine and feed it through the printer.

7-Print a test page.

Thanks,

No paper feed if less than 20 sheets in hopper

I had the same problem & it was suggested to adjust the rollers. I took the cover off & played with them & they fell down from a "stuck" positiion. I then left the cover off, taped down the device that moves the cartridges to the center (black movable tab) and hand fed a sheet to see if it was printing OK. It worked so I put it back together. I noticed that the feeding chute extension (goes up) which I had never used before & put it fully up. After printing with a stack of papers and then just a few it now works well with a glossy 8x10 perfectly. I think the change in angle of the paper you get when the paper doesn't bend due to the extension it the key.

Paper Light Blinking

make sure the rear part of your paper tray is not pressed too tightly against rear of paper. it will prevent the paper from raising up fully to the feed roller. you can also try cleaning the feed roller if that doesn't do it.

Mfc 8460n paper jam

Check to see if this happens when you use the drop down manual feed tray. If your printer works fine using the manual feed tray the problem is with your paper tray. Check to make sure it is set to letter size. I've found that sometimes the 'teeth' holding the paper stop on the paper tray wear out and when the printer goes to pick up paper, it pushes the paper stop out of position causing the printer to think it's using a different, much longer size paper thus preventing it from feeding all the way through. You'll probably need a new paper tray if this is the case.

Line down the right stide in the megenta area of the self test and blurrred print on the right side

Step1
If you're setting up the printer or changing the toner or ink cartridge for the first time, double-check the instructions to make sure that you installed the cartridge correctly and, for new printers, that you have removed all the pieces of cardboard or plastic packing material.
Step
2
Check to see whether paper is feeding from the paper tray. If it's not leaving the tray at all, try feeding a page manually (if that's an option) or using a different paper tray. Sometimes a problem with the tray can be traced to a broken spring or a piece of plastic.
Step
3
If paper is feeding from the tray but jamming in the printer, examine where the jam is occurring and then inspect the printer carefully to see if you can find what is causing the problem. A piece of paper, for instance, might be blocking the paper path.
Step
4
If paper is feeding through the printer but coming out blank, check to see whether the printer is out of toner or ink. A defective toner or ink cartridge could be the problem.
