Hi Robert,
probably the cd tray belt (a tiny black rubber belt that connect the tray rack with motor gear) is broken, check this by opening the player, if torn you need to buy a new spare and replace it.
There is a small switch under the tray that stops the motor at the end of it's travel, also one when the tray goes back in.
These can have wires broke off or can be stuck or open circuit
JUust get a different CD- Player ,It will cost you less then to have it repaired, WHere i live i can get a good used one for $10 to $30 at the most, End they are not hot,
I solvwed the problem by removing the cover and found 2 discs jammed into the same slot. removed them and put them in the proiper slos, put back cover, gently tightening the screws incase it happens again.
technics 110 cd changer. model sl-mc310.
open the player wit the door ejected then clean all dust particles
inside it especially below the door and on the way where the door
closes ... and then also clean the rubber belt & near by which is
connected to dc motor... and clean the lens also... remember clean
only wit dry clothes...
if the door doesnt open means just hit on upside surface lightly after pressing eject button only...
