Laptop compaq cq62 win 7 boot problems stays blnk with flshn crsr. i have Hirens disc but I don't know what to run with it..help if you can

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit). This is the OS noted on the MS Product Key sticker. Right? You will require the Vista install disc. Just treat the install as a new clean setup. It should be a breeze, depending on the errors you mentioned.


Your other options is to obtain a license / product key for the disc you do have. In any case someone here will more than likely assist when you are ready. GL

Boot with a Win 7 disc, and choose Repair Your Computer. Then use Startup Repair option. Type bootrec /fixboot ENTER if end up at the command prompt. It does the same thing.You could also run the install from repair.

1 - You may need to roll back system with System Restore. Under Safe Mode (press F8 during boot and choose safe mode).
Win 7 - Start > Search type System Restore
XP - Is Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Restore. Now choose a date prior to problem. You may have to try a few dates.


2 - Try disabling startup programs. Go to Start > Run (search in Win 7) and type MSConfig. Startup tab and uncheck anything that you don't want Windows to load automatically. It will make Windows boot faster and use less resources while running. This just disables them in startup. Programs will still load, but when only you initiate.

For Manual:
Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "CompaqSupport" or "HP Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Look for Manuals and documents.Try running the Check Disk utilityTo run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents,music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Most likely you will have problem trying to install windows XP in a windows 7. It is better to use a virtual machine on your windos 7 instead. Once you have downloaded and install this run it. then install the XP on this mode by -run the virtual machine -go through the setup -insert the installation disk -wait for the installation is complete
Then every time you will run the virtual machine it will go to the XP that you installed.

if your pc has win xp then the only way to reset your admin password is to reinstall windows. if you have vista or 7 then there is a utility on the hirens boot disc you can download from here

download the iso and burn it to a cd using something like imgburn

I would insert the Win7 system disc and run CHKDSK/F to attempt a fix with the errors. Or run rescue from the disc.
