My 0xc000000c "Restore Failed" prompt seemed to be the result of disk surface damage on the restore disk. After burning the restore disk to a new disk, the restore proceeded normally. Try making a copy of the original restore disk to a known good blank disk.

Note: My recovery disks were for an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop.

If this laptop is still under warrantee, I'd get it replaced. You could spend hours/days tracking down the cause of this. You could spend hours/days updating faulty drivers, running diagnostic tests such as Memtest, HDTune. You may even fix it - however what's to say the problem doesn't re-occur somewhere later in life.

That's why we have warrantees. I'd use it if you can.

Tried to recover with erecovery disk ran to 100% and then said restore failed and gave error code 0xd000001e

Go online, and type in the error code at google.com, that should steer you in the right direction.

0xd000001e and subsequent black screen

The easiest way is to hit F10 right after the Acer splash screen. This will take you into recovery mode on the laptop. Then just do the Reset to Factory Default. This will put everything back to the way it was when you purchase the laptop. It does this from the recovery partition.
