A single is just that a single auger that scoops snow and shoots it out chute their a smaller unit --a dual front auger scoops snow into another auger which shoots the snow through the chute the duals are bigger and they move more and heavier snow

Snow thrower not throwing snow far enough

Your belt is probably slipping Is your snowblower a single stage or dual stage?
If it is single stage, there are normally multiple holes that you can put the engagement cable into on the lever. If so, move the cable to a hole that is further away, so the lever pulls the cable further. If it's already in the furthest hole, it's time for a new belt.
If you have a dual stage blower, the adjustment is usually made at the idler pulley, found under the belt cover.
