SOURCE: Planes Comparison

If you have a stack of hand planers and you do a lot of woodworking, you might want to buy a power planer. Power planer have a number of qualities that should convince you to keep the old hand planers but add that power to the group. Choose a power planer when you have a lot of planing to do. One thing about a power planer is that it is much faster compared to the hand planer. Use a power planer when you need to make rabbets or even scrolling. The power planer can do both of these jobs. There is a great deal of versatility about a power planer. Keep the cut smooth with a power planer. Frequently a hand planer needs to be lifted and started again. This leaves gouges and groves. A power planer has a continuous blade that leaves a smoother cut. Get more precision. The continuous motion of the hand held power planer and set depth cuts the specific amount that you want. Plane larger areas. You can plane doors quickly and easily with a few strokes of the power planer. Straighten a board easier with a power planer. You also can create chamfered surfaces with the power planer.

SOURCE: craftsman thickness planer mod.no. 351-275210. looking

Hello,

Are you sure that the model# 351-275210 is accurate? Sears Parts Direct is not listing this particular number. This may be because it is inaccurate, or the planer that you have is no longer supported. Searches on the internet have yielded little information as well.

If this model # is accurate, then you will need to contact your nearest store. They should be able to order you a manual, perhaps even print you one while you wait if the document is available. The store databases will sometimes have more information available than what is available from their website.

Please confirm the model #.

WHEN PLAINING A BOARD IS COMING OUT WITH A UNEVEN PLAINING ON THE ENDS OF THE BOARDS ABOUT 3" TO 4" FROM THE EANDS.

this is normal with all planers, when you feed the board in the planer there are two feed roller one on each side of the knives so you get uneven pressure on the board at the start and at the end of the board .when planing boards for a project always add 10"inches or more extras then cut to lenght after planing to thickness required. never cut boards to length before planing .

I have a penn state super 125 surface planer and am having trouble finding blades for it. can you get me a cross reference number. please and thank you

I can't find the cross reference you seek, and am wondering if Penn State no longer makes or supports this planer. (Here's one archived review from 1996.) However, any reputable sharpening shop should be able to provide you with tool steel or carbide planer knives, or resharpen your existing knives. If the knives have specialized holes for mounting, etc, there may be a surcharge for drilling the steel to fit your planer, but I suspect with the economy the way it is most sharpening shops will be happy to undertake the task. If they balk, find someone who's qualified before you spend the money on new knives. What is important is the the thickness of the tool steel is comparable with your knives and the width is within the specs of adjustment for your planer. Usually normal tool steel will get sharper. whereas carbide is tougher to wear out.
If you can't find anyone local, I can wholeheartedly recommend Precision Sharpening in Albuquerque, N.M. They have quality grinders and do professional work.
If your knives are of the disposable type and your can't locate a substitute, try contacting Penn State Industries here.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

When I feed the board in it stops then starts again. ever four inches. Leave a little snip in board. I've replaced the belt an the chains on the in feed and out feed still have this problem.

Couple of things to check:
1. Are your knives sharp? Dull knives will cut not fast enough to keep up with the rollers.
2. What is the depth of cut? Dewalt's planers cannot plane a board to excessive depths.
3. Are you rollers clean? Dirt, pitch or possibly grease could affect your feed rate.
4. The belt/chain for your rollers engaged or are they slipping? Open up the planer and check for wear or possibly broken belt/chain.
Snipe is usally caused by improper support while exiting the planer. Use outfeed rollers set to the correct height. Also chek that you outfeed bed is aligned with the bed of the planer.
Hope that helps,

I have a Jet CS-13 surface planer. The cabinet version. The cylinder that holds the three cutting knives is not longer parallel with the cast iron table. I have tried adjusting the tilt for the cast...

Hello,
I am not familar with the Jet but have set up alot of planers.
-When you say cylinder do you mean "head" (a head is what holds the knives)?
-When you checked the head being parallel did it have the knives in it? If so it's most likely a knive problem.

-As far as the table being in a bind I don't know.

I would go to you tube and look up "planer set up" , I have viewed alot of there set up videos and they cover alot of the issues you are discussing. The wood whisper videos are a good place to start.

Hope this helps.
