SOURCE: JBL PB10 subwoofer, it makes a loud burp noise when it comes on.

In the industry - It is called "Turn-On Thump".

There are some manufacturers that eliminate components like noise filters on enry level lines to save money.

There is no way to lessen this noise without ripping the amplifier apart and having a technical knowledge of the way amplifiers work. It would involve hard-wiring a slow charge capacitor in the turn on line so it gradually builds power instead of getting it all at once.

Thanks for using FixYa - a FixYa rating is appreciated!!

SOURCE: no sound

1. Verify unit is plugged in and power outlet used is active.
2. Is power switch on?
3. Is auto turn on/off set properly?
4. Is unit receiving an input signal from your source?
5. Have all controls on subwoofer (volume, crossover, phase, etc.) been
properly set?
6. If unit has been running at high levels, one of the protection circuits may be engaged.
7. Has the built-in amplifier overheated?

SOURCE: Cerwin Vega V-10S Subwoofer doesn´t sounds good

dear "rai17"

This, to me, is most likely the voice coil inside the driver rubbung against the yolk plate, or possibly the spyder slapping the metal plate underneath it, or the amp-(if it has one?) getting tired. this can occur from poor build quality, or playing the subwoofer too loud. depending on how much it cost you, you may want to get it repaired(voice coil re-alignment or something or new amp). But the way it seems, it is probably the driver itself. subwoofers get looser as they break in. This one may have been over-broken....sorry

I hope this helped clarify what is happening!

Not that it would help.

Is the white noise present in the absence of an input connection, free-floating?

The amps in both of them sound like they

SPL 10BV - no output after a long session with volume control seat 5 (12 o'clock). Has it got a fuse?

Most powered devices have a fuse. Does it work after being turned down in volume? or is it completely dead with no signs of power? or does it show some indicator light but no sound? Check for blown fuse and then for blown speaker coil.

Velodyne model spl88v will only make a high pitch chirp used to only happen at turn on now wont play

Could be one of two things.

The speaker could have a rubbing voice coil, that was the "chirp" sound

Over time, this will damage the speaker. If it shorted, then it may have blown a fuse in the amplifier section.

Any good electronics shop should be able to fix this for a reasonable cost. You also could try the place you purchased the unit from.

You could also contact Velodyne.

Extreme distortion with Velodyne SPL 800II

Woofers are subjected to relatively high degrees of acceleration which can cause a poorly built voice coil or spider (an additional support located at the junction of voice coil and cone) to break away from the cone or the surround at the edges of the cone may have dissolved. Cigarette smoke is death to the common foam-type suround and once it is no longer intact, the cone can slap on the frame edges.
Only the very expensive band/concert-type speakers are worth repairing. Check on eBay for the right size replacement; they atart below $20 US.
High quality speakers actually come with a warranty but then, the Chinese company that built them may not outlast the warranty.
