Apparently, the C4280 driver on your CD is incorrect. So, reinstall your C4280 driver from here:
www.hp.com and on the left side you
will see a grey menu that says software and driver downloads. Click on it and
type your product. The version right now is 9.7.1
DO NOT INSTALL THE HP INSTALLER FILE - it is the same as on your CD.
I had this same problem and it is fixable, but not the way you would probably like, though you can still scan with the printer. You just have to open the Paint program and click from scanner or camera, and then choose your printer and click scan preview, and then scan, it works just fine but its a little time consuming.
Hi, click on the link below for your mac drivers and other supporting software that you will need for your printer. i would advise to save these important drivers your HDD and transfer them to a CD-R if possible.
Can you print from it? It sounds like you just need to install the software that came with it, it has all the drivers you need or go to hp website and download the newest drivers. Update your drivers and then it will recognize it.
You have to know first if your printer is Vista compatible. If yes, you need the vista drivers in order to get your printer connected with vista.
When the system prompt for the driver, click BROWSE and Select the location Open the folder when the downloaded driver is and click OK This must be fixing your problem
