My Wieser power-bolt 1000 has stopped working. The batteries are good and drive motor runs but the deadbolt does not move in or out even with the door open.

The mechanism operates easily manually with the door open or closed but it feels a little loose even after I made sure all the screws are tight.

SOURCE: Powerbolt 1000 started beeping and quit functioning

To provide a further bit of information. According to tech support the beeping can be caused by EITHER a bad keypad (about $15) or a bad circuit board (about $80, so, time for a new lock). The easiest way to tell is to:

  • Remove the batteries
  • Unscrew the circuit board from the housing (it will remain attached and dangling by some wires)
  • Unplug the gray ribbon cable that connects the back of the circuit board to the keypad
  • Put the batteries back in
After powering back up, if the unit keeps beeping, the circuit board is bad. But if it doesn't the keypad is bad. You can order the replacement keypads from Weiser via the 800 number listed in the previous comment.

SOURCE: Weiser keypad deadbolt lock deadbolt does not move

Hi... You have too be sure that the deadbolt is free when it go inside the deadbolt hole... however this system is very low power and the (over torque clutch) will sleep if the deadbolt it's not completely free.
Also if you try to open the door before you unlock it, you may block the the deadbolt inside the deadbolt hole. Take care too unlock the door before open-it...

After replacing the batteries, my lock starts with the alarm beeping and won't stop. this is the second one that has done this. what im i doing wrong? or are they only good for one set of batteries?

There is only a one year warranty on the electronics and Kwikset will not sell the electronic parts separately. Check the installation manual for a reset procedure - basically the lock might be "forgetting" it's programming. Another possibility is that it's trying to move the bolt and can't. Be sure the bolt moves freely.

If the electronics have failed and it's out of warranty, there are other brands that are key-compatible with Kwikset. You'll still have the same problem if the electronics breaks though. The main difference is that other brands don't move the bolt with battery power, they just enable it to be moved by hand.

When i try to lock or open with key pad it will make the sound like its closing but the bolt does not move. can only lock and open with key.

The deadbolt may very free inside the deadbolt hole... This system is low torque and a over torque clutch may slip if the dead bolt it's not completely free inside the deadbolt hole... Also, if you try to open the door before to unlock it, you may block the deadbolt... take care to unlock the door before open it. to be sure that the dead lock is ok, you can turn the manual knob and be sure is turning very very easily.

Bolt doesn't open all the way

You should replace your batteries as the motor that moved the deadbolt does not have enough power to move it with weak batteries. If that fails make sure the deadbolt moves freely when the lock is removed as the mis-aligned mounting will cause excessive force be exerted to move the deadbolt. See http://www.weiserlock.com/Support/Faq/50160000000HhbGAAS.aspx

The combination won't open the lock ...it takes 4 or 5 times to open the dead bolt all the way ...sometimes on the first try but mostly 5-9 tries .

The deadbolt will not retract. even when new battaries are installed

Does the motor run when activated? If so, your friction wheel "O"ring is worn out. This is a mechanical issue and should be covered by the Lifetime Warranty.
Call them. You only need to send the battery compartment side in. (inside of door)

When i enter the combination you can hear the mechanism turn, but the deadbolt is not moving. is this powerbolt shot, and do i just need to replace it? i expect the gears are not meshing?

If this is an electronic lock, you may need to replace the batteries or check that the power supply is not frazzed if it is connected to the mains.

If it's mechanical, a couple of good squirts of lubricant might get it moving.

Other than that, you might need to call a locksmith.

Our powerbolt does not work well in the cold. It appears as if the batteries no matter how fresh, are not strong enough to turn the bolt. I thought I had seen a new model where the keypad simply unlocked...

Batteries, when they are cold, do not give off the same amount of power. You can test this by putting them in a freezer for a few hours and then trying them in a battery operated device. They cold does not hurt them, and they will work fine once they warm up. Depending on how cold the batteries get for your deadbolt this could be the problem. Also if the deadbolt is rubbing at all against the lock plate it could put unnecessary pressure on the motor. Schlage does make a deadbolt system that uses a keypad and a manual turn. The Camelot or Plymouth models.
