Lisa. the brakes may be sticking. see if it pushes easy. if it does it may have a worn out drive belt.

your linkage came apart from the way it sounds. most all these riding lawn mowers are simple machines. you need to fallow the(flopppy lever) and see where it go's it is supposed to attach to a rod or cable and must have came unhooked

SOURCE: wont move forward or reverse-- transmission??

Does it have gears or a hydrostatic (automatic) transmission?

If it's a gear model, sounds like a loose drive belt.

If it's hydrostatic, it could be a belt problem or a problem inside the transmission. If it's a tranmission problem, this is not good. Many of the transmissions on riding lawn mowers are not serviceable - they are just replaced.

SOURCE: MTD riding mower does not move forward or reverse.

this is a belt driven transmission. from the engine driven pulley going aft towards the xmission differential there is another smaller variable speed pulley, there is a long belt between these two, from the variable speed pulley there is a larger xmission pulley that sits kitty-corner to it with a belt between these two. This larger "xmission pulley" is what drives the differential and depending upon which gear you have selected, makes it go forward or reverse. Check that both belts between pulleys are on, check that pulley's hardware is completely secured (nuts tightened down) The heads of these pulley's are splined to align to the shaft(s) and if they aren't tight, they will just spin and not engage the transmission. If your battery is under the seat, remove it and you should be able to see and access the aft pulleys. If both belts are on and engaging the pulley's and the shaft is turning on the transmission pulley than you have transmission differential failure. Bet it's the belt off or pulley head loose. Good luck, hope this helps

Husqvarna riding mower modle yth20k46 that move very slow

The link rod from the petal to the transmission straightened out at the rear bend. Take it off and bend it slightly further to make it go forward faster. The 1/2" nut above where the rod connects to the transmission is adjustable to set it where it doesn't move when your foot is off the petal. Loosen it a bit and you can move the petal slightly forward or backward to adjust it. Depending on how much you bent the rod it won't take much adjustment. Re-tighten and try it out. It may take a few tries. Good luck!

My 42" Husqvarna (model #917.279240

Remove the center dust caps from the rear axles, start the tractor up and put it in gear and observe the axles, if one of them is spinning freely inside the wheel, you have lost the 1/4" square key that pins the wheel to the axle. Replace the key and you can go back to mowing. Hope this helped Tim

Engine runs good and blades turn fine but the lawnmower does not move forward or reverse.

the freewheel control is in the wrong position. push in all the way for mowing. This control is located on the rear of the mower below the seat.
