Finally found the problem. Bad transformer/capacitor. Removed all circuit boards. Checked continuity with a meter.

Checked the power supply. Dead. Replaced same. Reassembled. Works almost as good as new. Not HD, but works for me.

Heard a pop sound -- then the set went dead -- no lights, no nothing, and then there was a slight electrical burn smell coming from the back of the set :(

It's an old 32" set

SOURCE: Sony KV32s45 sudden failure

I really have to say there is no miracle cure for TV's I have 20years of experience in fixing TV's I don't suggest for you to try to fix this as TV's run on high voltage and you could kill yourself.

If you really cannot find a tech to check it for you the only thing you can try is to check for a broken fuse.

You Must Take Great Caution.

If you are a person that like to take things apart you may try to take the back off .
Start by disconnect the power cable and follow the main power cable inside , normally it goes where the main switch is located and there you should find a Time Fuse normally the value is around 2.5 amps T for time it should say on circuit board & on fuse.Check for a faulty fuse.If faulty replace with the same type fuse and before you plug it in put back all covers than you may try to put on TV.

If fuse is good than fit back cover and take to a professional.

I have a memorex. I am getting sound but no picture. When powered on, the memorex sign shows up but then no picture just sound. Also makes a slight screeching sound for approx 10 sec. when powered on.

I guess the blanket draped over the TV is intended to give it a "timeout". Anyway, you will likely conclude eventually that the internal power supply has failed.

Model kp-53xbr4ct made 1998. picture was good. sudden went to center of screen and bowed up and down from center. it hade sound. turned of, now no sound. stand by flashes 6 times. unplugged , plugged back...

the video color distortion with the bowing in the center is called a convergence failure. the 6 blinks indicate a power supply shutdown for high voltage protect. the 14 blinks is just the tv trying to turn back on. you may be having to problems with the convergence and the 6 blinks or it may be related because the convergence amps can cause shutdown if they are shorted. i suggest calling a serviceman per the possible tow different failures. good luck
